Guest guest
HI all- Jack (5 months) went in for his 3rd fitting for his Starband - which we have had 7 days. It is just not fitting correctly. The last adjustment made yesterday seems to make the whole helmet twist on his head. One over the ear area seems to fit well. The other side (which is the flat side) seems to be cut way to far back. If that is the side we want to have round out it seems funny to have the pressure of the helmet so far back on his head. I am not very happy and very discouraged. I was looking at Starbands website under the questions asked by orthotist and it said the helmet had to be fitted within 10 - 14 days of casting. Jack waited 22 days because they could not dispense the helmet without the insurance (UHC) saying yes or no. Of course it was a no and they got me in the next day to dispense the helmet. What are my options now. Can I ask them to re-cast him?...and hope for a better fit?
Guest guest
Hi , I would ask them to recast. 22 days is a long time. Another mom on here (Molly) who has a starband with a good fit originallly went for a fitting & they carved out too much foam and it didn't fit right after that and they recast her son for no charge. I would think if you don't get a good initial fit they would definitely be willing to fix it. if not you can threaten to post a note about the bad fit on this board :-) our daughter has brachy, but her fit has been good from the start (almost 7 weeks now). We got it 2 weeks after her scan. good luck. -christine mom to sydney/ 6.5/starband 5-31-06 > > HI all- > > Jack (5 months) went in for his 3rd fitting for his Starband - which > we have had 7 days. Guest guest
Thanks so much for the response. I didn't even know if recasting is an option. christineashok <christineashok@...> wrote: Hi , I would ask them to recast. 22 days is a long time. Guest guest
Hi , I would think they would have to recast him if it is not fitting properly. Sounds like it is their fault that he didn't get the band in time. If you think it doesn't fit him right I would definitely call and talk to the orthotist. You could tell him/her what you've read about the time between casting and fitting. Hopefully they will want to avoid problems. It should not be on his head if it doesn't fit well. I'm sure others who've had poorly fitting helmets will respond. I think there is a file within this group with pictures of poorly fitting bands. Trust your instincts! Guest guest
OM Gosh 22 days between casting and fitting is WAY WAY too much. If you are having these type of issues I would def demand to have him re casted and re fitted with a new band. I would not ask, but demand. Please let us know how it goes.
