Can head growth be affected by helmet?

Hello,

My son Jack is 9 months old and has positional plagio, low muscle tone

and torticollis. He has been in a Starband since October. We have

seen almost immediate improvement in his head shape, but we are

concerned about his head size. Since Sept.,his head has not grown.

At 4 months,it was 17.5 inches and at his Feb. 9 month appt. it

remained the same. We have had measurements at 6 and 8 months,as well.

Is it possible that the Starband could be redirecting his head to grow

vertically? We are seeing a neurologist on 2/21 to assess this

issue, but I am hoping for a simple reason. Has anyone else had a

similar situation? Thank You!

Evett,

We have a similar situation with our six month old son. While we

haven't started using a band of any type, his head has not grown

between the 4th and 6th month well visits.

We have a follow up visit with the doc on 2/19 but I would be curious

to hear what the neuro has to say during your visit.

Would you be kind enough to share what he says after the visit?

Thanks

Just wanted to add that my orthotist at Cranial Tech said if the band

was too tight and restricting growth the childs whole head would be

bright red. Hope that eases your mind a little.

Does the band fit correctly? If it doesn't fit correctly, then yes,

it could grow vertically (NOT what you want). We never experienced

our sons head not growing while banded. Good luck in getting this

figured out ASAP.

I will post info from the neurologist as soon as I can. We will possibly need an mri, as well. Please do not worry about your son, yet. As long as his overall percentiles as growing proportionately,he should be fine. I will keep you up to date.
