I don't think there should be a restriction on the measurement in

order to graduate. I think it's somewhat odd that the ortho is

saying only 5mm is acceptable for graduation. I think the most

important thing is that you feel comfortable with the way his head

looks and if you feel strongly about it, the ortho should agree to

stop treatment. What kind of helmet do you have? I have heard of

some helmets (StarBand in particular) being able to be worn only at

nap/night time for a number of weeks before officially graduating,

so that might be something you may want to consider or ask your

ortho about. If nothing else, it may be a good transition out of the

band. How old is he? Regression is pretty rare, but again, the night

time wear could help allay that fear.

Good luck!

I was so ready to quit after 4 mo, but my ortho and specialist told me

they felt there was room for improvement and I should continue as long

as I possibly could. I mentally committed to 1 more month, and she

outgrew her band by that time. She had brachy and corrected and

additional 2% during that time. It was actually her best month since

the first month in the band, and we didn't expect such good results.

Needless to say I would recommend staying in the band as long as

possible and maximizing the correction.
