Guest guest
Hi all welcome denny..... ask your dear doctor if s/he has read the statistics regarding weight loss by diet and/or exercise...... more than 98% of people regained any weight lost (usually plus some more too!) within a few months......then ask her is she knows the stats for patients who have had a band.... after about 18 months (can't remember the exact time but i am sure one of the bandsters here will know) the average weight lost (and more importantly KEPT OFF) is about 60% of the original excess!!! If she then looks at the health risks we run by being morbidly obese...not to mention the emotional trauma....amybe she can begin to see why more of us are choosing the band. Of course it is not without risk..there are 2 bandters on this list that i know have had probs (one more serious that required the removal of the band) but personally i think the health risks of remaining overweight or worse still rebound dieting are much greater!!!! the actual risk of death is very low (my surgeon told me no higher than for any other form of common surgery)as long as an anesthetist experienced in dealing with obese patients is used. I had my swedish adjustable gastric band op done on 22nd nov 1998 and so far have lost 24 pounds...not fast or dramatic...but a HUGE step forward for me ...and at long last i have hope for the future. I am in uk so unfortunately can't advise on finding a surgeon, except to say, that i found mine by going to the biocentrics website (distributors of this band) and emailing them to ask which surgeons operate in my area. they were very helpful. good luck in your search..i think we do have some canadian bandsters in here so maybe some of them can help...and i know that many americans fly to mexico for their surgery.
