Guest guest
You sound hypo which I guess is from the RT3. Have you had cortisol testing? Ferritin? Vit D, Vit B12? Are you on T3 only? Kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Thu, June 3, 2010 12:13:04 PMSubject: Weight and thyroid Just wanted to touch on this. For the past few years with the high stress and hypo symptoms, I have gained weight in the middle.....feeling a little pudgy and about 20 lbs overweight for my height and all. But when I crashed in March, I lost like 15 lbs. really quickly. I'm sure part of it is because I stopped eating bread, sugar, gluten, white rice, potatoes, etc. But I just wondered if anyone else LOST weight instead of gained. Because I still have the hypo symptoms, but have had a lot of adrenal issues in the past as well. My feet are always freezing, I'm exhausted, I have air hunger, hard to keep my eyes open, my heels are dry and cracking, I am very sensitive to heat AND cold, I have brain fog and am lethargic. Guest guest
Kitty, I had cortisol testing done in November, and I was high in the a.m.s, and bottomed out a bit in the evening. I am on 22.5 hc per day. I had ferritin test done yesterday. Dr. has me taking b-12 shots, as b12 was some low. I supplement 5000 Vit. D3 per day. I WAS on Naturethroid, only 1/2 gr, but doctor took me off of that 3 weeks ago, and I'm on NOTHING until my t3 comes in. A very nice friend is "lending" me some of hers until my supply arrives, but seems our mail is being a pain, and it was mailed last Friday and still hasn't gotten here yet. I'm getting frustrated. Pretty sure my doctor will put me on it, but of course she wants to see the labs first, and it will probably be a week before she gets them in and makes her decision. Guest guest
Kitty, I salt a lot of things! I use seasalt. Is that ok? What is the abbrev. for aldosterone? I have an ALT on my labs of 13 (range 6 - 40) and an AST of 14, range (10 - 35). How high should my sodium be, and should I just drink saltwater to get it up? Guest guest
Joan, Sea salt is very good. You want an unrefined salt like the celtic grey sea salt http://www.amazon.com/Celtic-Sea-Salt%C2%AE-Brand-Celtic%C2%AE/dp/B000TIZP5I/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8 & s=grocery & qid=1275586221 & sr=8-5 I take salt water all day, I was needing 4-5 teaspoons a day but now seem ok with 3-4. My sodium was 138 and I had horrible low sodium symptoms. I need to get my electrolytes retested so not sure what they are now but last check was 142. I think you want sodium around 142-143. I would start with 1/2 teaspoon of salt in water a few times a day and see how you feel. Aldosterone is a seporate test. You have to salt fast for it. http://faqhelp.webs.com/aldosteroneandrenin.htm If your aldosterone is very low you will likely need florinef to get it up, no amount of salt worked for me just gave me diarrhea! kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Thu, June 3, 2010 1:14:16 PMSubject: Re: Weight and thyroid Kitty, I salt a lot of things! Guest guest
Kitty,Is Androstenedione the same? I have a test that says I was borderline high at 368 ( range 75-124, 125- 274, 275-400 ) Is this the same as aldosterone? This was on the saliva test results from a while back. Guest guest
For me low sodium was confusion/restlessness, angry/irritable, salt cravings, diarrhea <from salt wasting>, very dry skin/hair, thirst, constant peeing, fatigue, etc. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/aldosterone/ link from sttm about aldosterone. Guest guest
Kitty, How do you get your aldosterone level straightened out? By taking the salt? Should I supplement potassium? Guest guest
Kitty, I'm so sorry. None of us should have to suffer like this. I had a great childhood....it was later on that got rocky. How long have you been on this protocol? I hope it gets better for you soon. I know if I could get over the "air hunger" I could make it. It just drives me nuts. Guest guest
My life has just been full of trauma and frustration, what can you do. I started HC this Feb. and have been adjusting things as I go. I wish I could find a good steady job that would help my anxiety tremendously! I am a dental hygienist but can't find work Not even temporary.... I can work, just makes me exhausted... I think the air hunger will improve as you get your thyroid in order. My BF is doing much better since I started him on Isocort, Thyroid-s and testosterone cream It has only been a month for him... lucky!
