Debbie I know what you mean about being torn trying to make a decision. I

am certainly not a medical professional but as I state on my patient page on

the DS & AMOS sites, I know of success stories with many various wls. While

I chose the DS for me I know from talking to others that you can be

successful with other surgeries too. Often the success will depend on how

committed you are to making whichever procedure you choose work. I could

have had an RNY done only an hour away from home but preferred the DS

quality of life and chose to travel to get it. Do I think I would have lost

weight with they RNY? Absolutely, no doubt, but I don't think I would have

been happy with the lifestyle changes it brings and for me there would be no

reason to have the surgery if I would end up being unhappy in the end. I

would rather stay fat and semi happy than thin and miserable. I think it

was Joe who made the point that there are often revisions TO a DS but that

we have never heard of a DS being revised to an RNY or other procedure. The

only DS revision I am aware of is lengthening the common channel in the rare

instance that someone loses too much weight. Having said that I want to say

that if you choose a different surgery than the DS. Of course the people of

this list are going to sing the praises of the DS because after all, most of

us have either already had it or are planning to and if we didn't think it

were a fantastic choice we wouldn't have chosen it. I know I personally

will not flame you and will offer support and friendship to you no matter

what you choose. This is a very personal choice and while we can offer you

information to help you in the decision making process, you ultimately will

decide what you want and what you think you can live with. Keep us posted

on your journey and let me know what I can do if anything to help.

Sheila
