Guest guest
Hi - My daughter is 9.5 months and just got her band about 3 weeks ago. i wish I had not listened to the peditrician because I knew something was wrong from age 3 months. He kept telling me that it would round out. It got better with repositional therapy, but is still not completely round. Repo consisted of me getting up every hour to turn her head to the side while she was sleeping and keeping her in a jumperoo and bumbo sitter while she was awake because she hated tummy time. If you are truly uncomfortable with the shape of your son's head, then I would get the band sooner then later. He probably won't have to wear it for so long if you get it earlier. , NYvanessackm <vanessackm@...> wrote: Hi there - I wrote out this message this afternoon and my internet glitched so I don't think it sent, but if it ends up duplicating itself, sorry in advance! We had our 4 month well baby and vaccinations today (my son is 4.5 months) and the pediatrician about flipped when we told her my son generally needs to fall asleep in his bouncer with my blowdryer on...(this is the same pediatrician who said his head would just round out on it's own....she asked me 'oh did the specialist assure you that it would round out?' and I took some pleasure in saying 'NO acutally she referred us to the Starband people for further eval and we're going to decide to band or not in a month or two!!!' she just kind of gave me a blank look back....and said 'well a week on his head learning to sleep on his own is not going to affect his head shape'....she has NO IDEA about the rigors and frustrations of repo apparently) - - - he's been a terrible napper from day one - does ok on hours of sleep, but has a hard time winding down usually, so these sleep crutches developed over time as "do anything that works"...she says we really should be trying to get him to go in his crib awake and fall asleep on his own, which I totally agree with, except for the fact that it will be a struggle, he'll end up spending who knows how many nights crying it out (yikes...I'm so on the fence about that...there must be some method in between Sears and Ferber and that Baby Whisperer woman...) so during those hours, he's going to be in his crib, on the back of his head, which makes me cringe as far as the repo. Has anyone dealt with teaching their baby to fall asleep indepedently while also trying to aggressively repo? I feel like we make so little progress as it is. I was so discouraged tonight because I swear his skull base is getting even worse - the non flat side is really popping out and the flatter side isnt. I also wonder if I am just slowly going insane and noticing things no rational person would fret about. And my husband keeps saying 'he's a developing little boy, it will round out' - like is he totally deaf to everything we've learned??? He doesn't seem to "get" that there is a time when the skull basically locks into place, so I feel like I'm doing all this by myself. Oh, and I was bummed because we got him an exersaucer type thing to keep him off his head, and even though he is in the 85th percentile of height for his age, he's still too short for it! Anyway, any sleep ideas in general would be helpful...and also in reference to the repo stuff - just try to teach the sleep stuff and not worry about the few extra hours on his back, or wait till 6 months when repo is less of a big deal, or what? Waiting worries me, because we have to decide to band or not around 6 months, and I hate to decide and then have him relapse because he's all of a sudden having hours on his back practicing falling asleep in the crib and then we're later than I'd want to be on a band, or not able to band at all because the band place will think I am totally crazy for the back and forth. I think a lot of my problem right now is lack of sleep and total anxiety meltdown over all this stuff! Thanks for any tips in advance - Any questions? Get answers on any topic at Answers. Try it now. Guest guest
Thanks for clarifying! I was concerned that the bouncy seat was making the head shape worse. Do you want me to post the photos that you sent me? Molly Re: falling asleep at night and repo... I should clarify...regarding sleeping in his bouncer, what happens is he falls asleep on his side listening to the blowdryer in the bouncer for anywhere from 1-10 minutes or so. It's usually pretty immediate, and then after about 5 mintutes I transfer him to his crib so I can make use of him laying on the side of his head. That was a HUGE tip from this forum...and a huge help - because prior to that (about a month ago) I thought sleeping in his bouncer on his side was ok not realizing it was a) not helping the head height and b)not providing as much static pressure just in one direction to the side(s). The alternative is for him to lay on his flat spot in his crib trying to fall asleep and crying for an hour and missing his nap altogether (this is extreme I know - some days he might not do that, but on the whole). So this is why I'm stuck about the falling asleep independently issue. I know I really need to post pics....I would love opinions from all. I will work on that this weekend. > > > > Hi there - I wrote out this message this afternoon and my internet > > glitched so I don't think it sent, but if it ends up duplicating > > itself, sorry in advance! > > > > We had our 4 month well baby and vaccinations today (my son is 4.5 > > months) and the pediatrician about flipped when we told her my son > > generally needs to fall asleep in his bouncer with my blowdryer > on... > > (this is the same pediatrician who said his head would just round > > out on it's own....she asked me 'oh did the specialist assure you > > that it would round out?' and I took some pleasure in saying 'NO > > acutally she referred us to the Starband people for further eval > and > > we're going to decide to band or not in a month or two!!!' she > just > > kind of gave me a blank look back....and said 'well a week on his > > head learning to sleep on his own is not going to affect his head > > shape'....she has NO IDEA about the rigors and frustrations of repo > > apparently) - - - he's been a terrible napper from day one - does > > ok on hours of sleep, but has a hard time winding down usually, so > > these sleep crutches developed over time as " do anything that > > works " ...she says we really should be trying to get him to go in > his > > crib awake and fall asleep on his own, which I totally agree with, > > except for the fact that it will be a struggle, he'll end up > > spending who knows how many nights crying it out (yikes...I'm so on > > the fence about that...there must be some method in between Sears > > and Ferber and that Baby Whisperer woman...) so during those hours, > > he's going to be in his crib, on the back of his head, which makes > > me cringe as far as the repo. Guest guest
Hi - E-mail the photos to me at mafoley@... and I'll see if I can get them uploaded for you. Thanks! Molly P.S. Did you get the e-mail that I sent to you at your home address a couple of weeks ago? Re: falling asleep at night and repo... Molly - I had a few additional pics to add, so I created a n Repoed folder and tried to add some pics but it keeps saying file upload exceeded or something like that - I am using small files - like 50k each max....any ideas why it wont take them? I thought it said each account had a 5MB limit, but I'm waaay below that. If it doesn't work, maybe I can email them to you Molly. > > > > > > Hi there - I wrote out this message this afternoon and my > internet > > > glitched so I don't think it sent, but if it ends up duplicating > > > itself, sorry in advance! > > > > > > We had our 4 month well baby and vaccinations today (my son is > 4.5 > > > months) and the pediatrician about flipped when we told her my > son > > > generally needs to fall asleep in his bouncer with my blowdryer > > on... > > > (this is the same pediatrician who said his head would just > round > > > out on it's own....she asked me 'oh did the specialist assure > you > > > that it would round out?' and I took some pleasure in saying 'NO > > > acutally she referred us to the Starband people for further eval > > and > > > we're going to decide to band or not in a month or two!!!' she > > just > > > kind of gave me a blank look back....and said 'well a week on > his > > > head learning to sleep on his own is not going to affect his > head > > > shape'....she has NO IDEA about the rigors and frustrations of > repo > > > apparently) - - - he's been a terrible napper from day one - > does > > > ok on hours of sleep, but has a hard time winding down usually, > so > > > these sleep crutches developed over time as " do anything that > > > works " ...she says we really should be trying to get him to go in > > his > > > crib awake and fall asleep on his own, which I totally agree > with, > > > except for the fact that it will be a struggle, he'll end up > > > spending who knows how many nights crying it out (yikes...I'm so > on > > > the fence about that...there must be some method in between > Sears > > > and Ferber and that Baby Whisperer woman...) so during those > hours, > > > he's going to be in his crib, on the back of his head, which > makes > > > me cringe as far as the repo. Guest guest
I've also tried to upload pictures to get the groups opinion but it said it was too full. I will try lowering the size of the file but is it possible the site is full?thanks, sarah On 3 Dec 2006, at 00:56, vanessackm wrote:Molly - I had a few additional pics to add, so I created a n Repoed folder and tried to add some pics but it keeps saying file upload exceeded or something like that - I am using small files - like 50k each max....any ideas why it wont take them?
