Guest guest
Definitely switch to 90% alcohol. Also, try using a good smelling shampoo on his head - L'Oreal and Suave both make great smelling children's shampoos. The smell will diminish over time - either that or you just get use to it :>) Molly California Nicolas, 17.5 months, tort & plagio, STARband 4/25/06-9/12/06, Graduate! , 4 , 7 Stinky Helmet Any suggestions on what else I can do to stop the stink from the helmet?! I've been using alcohol, albiet the 70%, I guess I need to get 90! I clean it at least twice daily, and I put baby powder on his head. He's only on week two, so he's still sweating, but it is getting a little better. Just wondering if there's any other tricks? Because, even after I clean it thoroughly and I'm pressing really firm and scrubbing like the ortho said, it's still a little smelly! Guest guest
I think I just got used to it! My son was banded in the winter (Nov- March), and he never stopped sweating the entire time, but he always had a sweaty stinky head, even before the band . I wiped it out at every diaper change, and it just never got better. But I know that some have better luck! > > Definitely switch to 90% alcohol. Guest guest
Hello! I just joined the group this evening. A very nice mother in the same orthotics office as I gave me the info on this site. Tomorrow will be 1 week that my 6 mo old Lily has had her helmet and it already stinks. We have been washing it with baby soap and sometimes rubbing alcohol. Is there anything to get rid of the smell? Thanks
Guest guest
aww my 5 1/2 month old is Lily as well and she has had it for 3 weeks. i have just been using rubbing alcohol but you're right it still has a "smell" to it. I've been srcubbing it with a soft toothbrush and it's seems to help more. I am unaware of being able to use anything else though....good luck!"julie.stewart39" <julie.stewart39@...> wrote: Hello!I just joined the group this evening. Guest guest
-dont wash it with soap our instructions say to clean it once a day with alcohol 70% or 91% it will say it on the bottle. when you give your baby a bath clean the helmet. once a day with the alcohol with a towel or toothbrush. it says vigorously scrub it. then let it air dry. they said you can put it outside with it upside down in the sun or put a fan on it if odor is a problem. it also said shampoo babys head daily. good luck with that. the doc band place can also put some lil fur in it to help with sweating and irritation. hope this helps. mom 2 emma on 2nd band.. - In Plagiocephaly , " julie.stewart39 " <julie.stewart39@...> wrote: > > Hello! > I just joined the group this evening. Guest guest
I agree with always use the rubbing alcohol. We used the 71% and scrubbed with a toothbrush that we opened new and dedicated to only helmet scrubbing. This method worked great. Scrub with the brush and dip it back into the alcohol for more. I found 4 or 5 dipps and scrubs worked for us. We also switched to California Baby super sensitive shampoos because they were mild and I feel helped all around. Good luck Tammy (we also dried the helmet using an old osolating fan. We put the helmet on a toy drum on the floor in front of the fan and let it blow on it for a half hour. Dried it quicky and very well) Durocher <funwith4@...> wrote: be sure to wash it with alcohol every single day and try using the higher 91% aocohol On Jan 27, 2008 6:16 PM, julie.stewart39 <julie.stewart39 > wrote: Hello!I just joined the group this evening. Guest guest
Depending on which band you have, you may not want to use baby soap. I think with Star Band it is fine to use baby soap but NOT with the DOC band. Check out what is fine for use on your band. You can use a good smelling baby soap/shampoo on your baby's head though. > Hello! > I just joined the group this evening.
