Why would low iron cause RT3 and adrenal stress? I have had low iron for years - and thyroid/adrenal problems. My ferritin was about 25. Doctor didn't think anything of it.

Now, I had cancer markers discovered in my stomach and intestines so I thought I can't take iron. - I have a lot of adrenal stress and low cortisol.

Re: new need help NICK

has anyone told oyu you need ot treat your low IRON? That si most liekly what is causing your RT3 nd adrenal stress. I woudl recommend starting 150-200mg elemental iron daily before you change anyhting wiht thyroid meds. Then in abotu 2 moths you nee dot stop iron for 5 days, get a fiull iron panel and FT3 and RT3. That wil tell you how to proceed from there.-- http://nthadrenalsweb.org/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/------------------------------------We are not medical professionals here, just patients sharing our experiences. There is a deiodinase action in the conversion of T4 to T3 that is iron

dependent. With low iron, and MNAY of us here have it, your body cannto

make T3 properly from T4 so it makes RT3 which uses a differnt

deiodination enzyme. I honestly think low iron which is CAUSED by low

T3 is the reason many of u are SO ill. I knwo when I got my T3 wokring

right, wihtin a month I weaned off HC after 3.5 years on it. I was

tkaing 40mg at the time. Gettign iron UP is the onyl way your body cna

utilize T3 properly, so I assume some of the other deiodinases may also

be iron dependent but it is likel looking for hens teeth to find info on

iron and it;s affects on thyroid. Dr Kent Holtorf has done some research

into this and is the source of my informaiton, along wiht many years of

seeing iron prevent thyroid from working in people. Have you had a low

TSH all along no matter how hypo you wer? This is also a hallmark of low

iron. Your bodyKNOWS it can;t use thyroid properly so it reduces TSH to

compansate.
