Guest guest
Rate of improvement depends on a whole host of factors, including type of band/helmet, growth spurts, severity of plagiocephaly, etc. But generally, it's the younger babies who have fast improvement. This is not to say that your child won't see the same numbers, but just as it's impossible to compare two babies of the same age on if they have met certain milestones like rolling over or sitting up, it's impossible to say that each baby's head will improve at the same rate, or get the same amount of correction, especially when there are so many different molding devices being used on this list. I know it's difficult, but every day that your child is in the helmet is a day that it is helping. Our own son only gained a couple of pounds during treatment (he was a big baby at birth and "plateaued" in weight around 6 or 7 months, and we started treatment a round that time), which did affect how much correction he got - though we got the correction we expected, and when he graduated he was in the normal range for his headshape (long and narrow). You may want to talk to the orthotist about your concerns if you think that the molding device isn't working like you thought it would. He/she can best give you the information you need about other babies they've done in the same age bracket, and the type of correction received for that specific molding deviceTake care.tracymom to quinn, born 11/99, DOCgrad 10/00>------- Original Message ------->From : tina_f528[mailto:tina_f528@...]>Sent : 2/28/2008 8:19:15 PM>To : Plagiocephaly >Cc : >Subject : RE: Does anybody know their baby's results (improvements) halfway thru the process?>>I have posted before that I don't think the helmet is helping my now 10 month old daughter as much as we were hoping for. But she was scanned again last week and I was wondering what everybody thought of the results and how they compared to other babies' results halfway thru the process. She had been in the helmet 8 weeks when the ortho scanned her again. Her head had grown 9mm during that time and she went from 10mm to 7mm asymmetrie. I am glad that she is improving, but it still doesn't seem like it's going very good. She only has 8mm left to grow before she outgrows the helmet and judging by how much she has improved so far, it would get her to about 5mm asymmetrie once she is done. I guess after reading about all of the babies who improved by 10-13mm, I didn't expect her to only improve by around 5mm. She also has facial asymmetries that have so far only improved by 1mm (from 7mm down to 6mm). Is this a 'normal' re sult halfway thru the process? We are VERY compliant with the 23 hour wearing schedule. I guess I don't understand why some babies improve more than others since the helmets work the same way. Shouldn't they all have 'round' heads once they are done??For more plagio info
