Hahaha, this is timely for me! We just tonight swaddled our little Zach, who is 5 1/2 months, for the first time since he was a teeny burrito-babe. We swaddled him and his twin sis when they were tiny, but when they started struggling to get out of it, we stopped (around 2 months or so). Lately, he has been having more and more trouble getting to sleep on his own, so we figured we'd try it again. He drifted off by himself for the first time in months! Yay! So I say, long live the swaddle! I just did a web search on swaddling older babies, and lots of people do it. Some people say there is a safety concern if they roll to their tummies in the swaddle and can't roll back or push up because they are swaddled. If you're worried about that, you can leave one arm out. If your babe is not a roller, I don't think that should be an issue, but of course, go with your gut.

Glad Bradley is doing well!

P.S. The other issue would be temperature control with the band. If this swaddling thing takes, we're planning on swaddling in very light blankets with just a diaper underneath when he gets his band next week. I may need to make some " blankets " out of sheet material if the lightest blankets we have are still too warm for him with the band.

Hi everyone, Bradley got his Starband today and is doing GREAT. I thought he would hate it because he hates having things on this head. But he didnt mind it too much he tried to get it off for about 5 mintues and then when on with this business like it wasnt even there. So, so far so good but we will wait and see what he is like when he has to wear it at night. He is already a really bad sleeper wakes up 1 to 2 times per night. But I found tha he likes to be swaddled. He loved being swaddled when he was a baby but I thought he was too big to be swaddled still but, I swaddled him the other night and he only woke up once so we saw see. Does anyone still swaddle their 8 almost 9 month old baby or do you think he is too big? Bradley 8m 3w - Starband

I too had such a hard time with knowing when the best to break the

swaddle was. I went online and I think I read every comment out

there (well, maybe not but quite a few). We swaddled our son until

he was about 7 months. I was afraid that he'd be too hot with the

band which he got at 7.5 months. I would just be careful that your

son doesn't overheat especially since the band traps in heat. Also,

if he is getting out then it probably is time to kick the swaddling

but if he is staying swaddled and sleeping longer then I'd keep it

for awhile and then either he'll break the swaddling eventually or

you'll have to break it. The hard thing is depending on size, there

aren't a whole lot of blankets big enough for swaddling a bigger

baby. However, I think when I was still swaddling, someone said to

check out 's brand blankets as they have one that is big for

bigger babies. Another thought, if you sew, then you could make one

custom fit to Bradley!

Happy swaddling!
