I don't know much about iron but I have the same problem as you have...Has anyone had the problem with iron and really foul smelling stools?  

They are dark. I am on about 100 mg of iron. Does this mean I am not

absorbing. I am going to be doing an iron and ferritin test soon.

Also do I need to stop iron before test? Thanks, R.

Iron will sometimes make stools dark; I'm not sure if that's a malabsorption

issue or just an incidental by-product.

Yes, you need to stop all iron supplements 5 days before iron testing.

Not positive, but I don't think the dark color is related to malabsorption. I've read it's a harmless side effect of taking iron.

I don't know exactly what you are on, but I can say that lots of B vitamins will sometimes give urine a strange smell and/or an odd color. If it was me, and I was on lots of B vities, I'd skip them for a day to see if that was the cause. Because this could also be from other causes; if it's not B vitamins it must be investigated further.
