Hi Marina-

I never used memory foam, it never actually occurred to me to try

it. But I did use a boppy NogginNest for floor time, in the bouncey

seat and carseat carrier. Everywhere but the crib. I used this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Boppy-Noggin-Nest-Head-Support/dp/B00009K2YU

but there are a couple different ones available now.

I also used the bumbo seat and my son had tort. Our PT didn't have a

problem with it. My son was so big though, it was hard getting him

out of it (I had to pry it off his butt!). Also, I didn't try laying

my son on his side to sleep. He was just too big and wouldn't have

stayed there. I just focused on keeping his head turned in the

direction it needed to be, it was much easier to control that one

little part than his whole body. I used just part of a sleep

positioner, it was a head wedge and I would wedge it under his flat

spot side to keep him looking straight or to his left (his non flat

side). It did help with his flat spot, but in the long run, his

forehead was still bulging, so we decided to band.

The bands are very light, I think the DOCBand is actually 5 ounces

and the StarBand is closer to 6 or 7 (but I could be wrong on that).

My son is 19 months old, so he has a bigger band than most younger

babies, and it's still very light. I see babies in the office and

their bands look so tiny! The bands are made of a hard plasitc shell

with a foam lining. The foam is shaved out a little at a time to

encourage the head to grow into those open areas, while the dominent

areas (forehead bulge and opposite side of flat spot) are held in

place so they cannot become more prominent. If you haven't already,

you should check out our photo section to see all the babies in

their helmets.

Hope that helps!
