Guest guest
My daughter goes to daycare and the staff wasn't all that crazy about the helmet when we first started talking about it. They just kept saying that they see 'flat heads' all the time and not to worry about it and that it will go away on its own. However, once she got the helmet, they all mentioned that she is very cute with it on and that it doesn't look like a medical device. The staff doesn't really need any experience with helmets since they won't have to do anything with it while she is there. The first day she wore it to daycare, we showed them how to take it off and put it back on, but they have never actually had to do that (and she has wore it for more than 3 months). I make sure that I put outfits on her that they can take off with the helmet on in case they have to change her. Also, once she started pulling up more and trying to walk, several staff members would tell me that they wished all babies would wear helmets during this stage since it protects their head . She loses her balance quite a bit, but just gets right back up while the other babies get hurt and cry. There are no other babies with helmets in her daycare and they haven't had any before. And her daycare has been around for many years. We also haven't had any questions from other parents, but we have had several comment that they thought it was neat that her helmet could correct the shape of her head. We had one lady approach us in WalMart to see what the helmet was all about and it turned out that her son has severe brachy and she didn't know what to do about it. We have not had any negative responses from people about the helmet. Everybody has been very nice about it. We had to explain it many times so far, but that has never bothered us. I was a little worried at first about all of the stares and questions, but it has turned out to be a very good experience for us. You rock. Guest guest
Thank you for posting this info. I make me feel a little better know you have not had a bad experience with it. I hope we can have a positive time too. Jenn > > My daughter goes to daycare and the staff wasn't all that crazy about the helmet when we first started talking about it. Guest guest
I'm glad to hear about the good responses. I really like and appreciate the idea of writing a note to prepare the parents. My son is in a 6 week to 1 year room (they move up when they can walk and feed themselves). The center is very open, so some of the older kids might have questions especially those in my daughters class (4 and 5). > > > > My daughter goes to daycare and the staff wasn't all that crazy > about the helmet when we first started talking about it.
