Guest guest
Big day for you! When they first put the band on him, I would make a big deal about it, clapping and cheering for his new hat, so that he associates wearing it as a good/fun thing. Try not to stress too much yourself because he might sense your stress and get upset. And resist the urge to play with it or adjust it once it's on. I really had to keep myself from trying it push it back out of my son's eyes, and whenever I would play with it anyway, he would just get annoyed. Your son should adjust just fine, it's just a matter of if it takes the first day or a week. Take off the helmet every couple of hours and wipe his sweaty head and the inside of the band and keep him in cooler clothes. Just follow the instructions the orthotist gives you (and don't be afraid to ask questions), and you should be fine. Good luck! Guest guest
One other thing, it looks like (from your screen name) that you have an older daughter as well. Does she have a bike helmet? If she would be willing to wear it today, I bet your son would get a kick out of it, and it would help him adjust a little. My daughter wanted to be just like her baby brother yesterday and wore her bike helmet the entire day...to the gym, the library, the grocery store, in the house all afternoon and didn't take it off until bath time. She even handed it to me and asked me to clean it like I do his band every night. It was the sweetest thing. That way, she's involved in the process too, expecially on a day when you're attention is so focused on the little one. Again, good luck with everything! Guest guest
I'm on day 6 of my son wearing his helmet. I know exactly what your feeling. I was (and still am) the same way. My son hates anything around his head, but he's fine with the helmet. I was really suprised. So far I've only had 2 issues. He's waking up more at night because his pacifier gets stuck between his neck and helmet, which is easily fixed...I'll put another pacifier in his crib! And the other is that his head is sweating a lot and I think he has a heat rash. But wiping his head down with a cold cloth seems to be helping. Something that I'm slowly realizing is that it's different for babies than for us. I feel awful because I'd hate to have a helmet on 23 hrs a day. But, babies are really resilant. It doesn't seem to really bother them and they just go with it. I think they have a much easier time adjusting to the helmet than we do! > > > > Hello parents, > > > > My little (7 months today) will be wearing his hanger helmet > > starting this morning. Guest guest
Anabel is now on day 7 and she is doing great! At first she didn't like when the helmet went on or off...mainly because I was a bit nervous and unsure of it now I play with her and can get it on and/or off quickly and she doesn't fuss at all. I didn't have to do anything to make her more comfy at night to sleep except I am still trying to get a good combination of house temp and her clothing because she won't fall asleep until the temp is comfy for her. She sweats a lot and her helmet is already stinky! THe technician told me to only use the rubbing alcohol...and wiping cleaning her head/hair. ..it's funny you mention the bike helmet for the older child because my son Diego who is 3 yrs old went with me to get Anabel fitted and he was part of the process and he told the technician that now that Anabel has a helmet that she could ride a bike with him. LOL. The other day I let him wear his helmet to daycare since she "got" to wear one. He thought that was too cool and the daycare thought it was sweet. She accidentally head butted him last night with the helmet on and I though he would fuss....but he thought it was funny and said "do it again" of course he softly bumped heads with her and went on his merry little way. LOL. I think making the older child comfortable with it is important too.
