My 9 month old twins have almost out grown their infant car seats. Has anyone used an Alpha Sport NYC Convertible Care Seat? It is supposed to be usable for children 5 lbs all the way up to 80 lbs. From what I've read it converts from a car seat to a booster seat. I want to be able to find a car seat that I can use for a long time, since I have to buy them 2 at a time. Any recommendations on what type of care seat is good?

Thanks for you help

I've always heard great things about Britax.

We have an Alpha Omega http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2401317

It goes up to 100lbs. It's very sturdy - washes up great. Worked well with her band - we took out the pillow and put puffy covers on the straps for her torticollis.

Take your babies to babies r us and have them sit in ALL of them - also try them IN your car - if you have a smaller car then it might be harder to get one of the bigger seats in there - especially if you have 2 seats to put in. I use this in a minivan so it works well.

thsi wont be your only carseat though as it implies. Children need to stay in a harness until at least 40 lbs and though this goes to 80 lbs it only goes to 40 lbs with the harness and the harness slots are not any higher than any other convertible carseat so there is a high probability that unless yuo have some pretty husky kids that they will outgrow the carseat in height before 40 lbs so will need a harnessed booster to tide them over until 40 lbs b/c harnessed boosters have higher harness slots. Mine were 2½/34 lbs and 3½/34 lbs when they outgrew their convertibles in height. The later did not reach 40 lbs until she was over 43 " and 5½ yrs old. Since a harnessed booster also converts to a belt positioning booster that makes this seat pretty much a regul;ar convertible b/c the seat you buy will be able to do all this one does after the height limit.

If you want something that will last quite a bit I would look at the Britax Marathon (try albeebaby they have best prices usually) or a Radian 65, they will take you through rearfacing and then forward facing to 65 lbs with the harness. They have higher harness slots so they will be able to stay in it until at least 40 lbs. The child mentioned above who wasnt 40 lbs until 5½ just outgrew the Marathon at almost 8, 48 lbs and 4' However you will still have to buy a belt positioning booster after that (though if you have adjustable headrests yuo can get a low back for $20).

If you dont mind having to buy a harnessed booster to get you to 40 lbs and dont want to harness after 40 lbs then I would look at regular, cheaper convertibles b/c you will get the same amount of use from them as you would from the one you linked to.

Either way, in the long run you will end up having to get another seat

Hi,

I'd tried sending this message out before a few days ago, since it was an awesome deal. But, it must have gotten pulled because it wasn't truly a plagio thing...

Hi All:

I know that this doesn't have anything to do with plagio, but I wanted to pass this savings on to everyone. :) Well, they are extra cushy for nice helmets and soon to be round heads!!!

I just picked up a Britax Roundabout for 139.99 with no shipping at babyage.com. Use JUN06 for free shipping.

http://www.babyage.com/brands/britax_car_seats_convertible_car_seats.htm

As you guys know, these are pretty expensive normally 200-250. It is the one that only fits up to 40 pounds, though. But, they are the best rated for toddlers up to that size and that includes looking at the marathons and the frontiers. Those are better for a little older child. They run at 51 points for the marathons vs. 81 points for the roundabouts in the testing.

Here is the kicker... You will have to get a collegiate one... not the prettiest I've ever seen. And, not any particular colleges I like. But.... its also about 60-100 dollars less than normal. I just looked at them at target and they were 200.00. I wanted you guys to know first as I always get great info here. So, if you need to get a carseat and are looking at Britax ones.... grab it before the 29th. And, order soon, they may have very limited quanitities. Also, drop a couple into your cart and they will come up at 139.99 for all colleges. Then, delete the ones you don't want at the price you don't want. Not sure what the problem is, but we are saving cash here. I know you guys will go the extra mile.

:)

Thanks everyone!

Kim

IT IS TIME FOR US TO GET A NEW CARSEAT SINCE DYLAN HAS OUTGROWN HIS INFANT SEAT AND HIS HELMET IS CAUSING HIM TO GET QUITE UNCOMFORTABLE IN IT. I HAVE READ TONS OF REVIEWS AND I THINK WE HAVE DECIDED ON THE BRITAX MARATHON. I WAS JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS THIS ONE. I HAVE READ A LOT ABOUT THE ROUNDABOUT TOO BUT OTHERS HAVE SAID THEY WISHED THEY WOULD HAVE SPENT THE EXTRA MONEY SINCE THE MARATHON IS BIGGER AND WILL LAST LONGER. CHRISSY SAN DIEGOMOM TO DYLAN 7 MONTHS 2 WEEKS STARBAND
