Guest guest
Hi Terry: A good place to start is to take your temperature. Moderator Val has posted her own temps as an example, when her hypothyroidism is adequately treated and " she is functioning well * 5AM 98.2 * 10am 98.4 * 2PM 98.6 * 6PM 98.8-99 * 8PM 98.4 * 10PM 98.2 " (I myself don't get up at 5:00 AM! The first temp is taken upon waking, whether at 5:00 AM, or in my case, 7:00 AM.) If temperatures are lower than this, it is worth checking into undertreated hypothyroidism as a cause of both no energy and weight gain. Low temperatures are not the only indicator of undertreated hypothyroidism, but I think it is probably the easiest thing to check out first. If thyroid and/or RT3 are the underlying cause to your low energy and weight issues, Moderator Nick's website is a gold mine of information on how to improve. Here's the link: http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ Hopes this helps. > > I have had next to no energy for the last couple of years. I am on 50 mcg of cynomel. Synthroid does not work for me. Not only am I always tired, I am very overweight. I don't know where to turn. Can anyone suggest something I can do to increase my energy? > > terry >
Guest guest
Hi, Terry. It would also be helpful to know how long you have been on the 50 mcg of cynomel, and if you have any recent labs. Guest guest
I know in the morning my temp is around 97. I can't remember my temp being 98 unless I have a fever. I have not had labs done in awhile. I think I will get them done on my next day off, which is july 5. Today I went online and ordered Vit D3, Iodoral, and a multi-vitamin. > > > > I have had next to no energy for the last couple of years. I am on 50 mcg of cynomel. Synthroid does not work for me. Guest guest
Low temps are a red flag for thyroid issues, including undertreated hypo. Here's Moderator Nick's page on " temperature and what it means " : http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/temperat.htm And here is his page on " do I need to increase? " (Cytomel): http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/doineed.htm And one more good temperature link, this website also has lots of good info on hypothyroid and why Synthroid doesn't work for many people: temperature info page: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/temperature/ Main page: www.stopthethyroidmadness.com When you get your labs, a Reverse T3 and a Free T3 may be particularly useful tests to get. The ratio between the two might help narrow down the thyroid issue. Here's a link: http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/howisit.htm > > > > > > I have had next to no energy for the last couple of years.
