Guest guest
I would keep things as they are. The more you stick to your regular schedule, the better your son will adjust to the band. They also feed off of the mom's emotion. So as someone else posted, if your are stressed out and really worried, your son will pick up on it and have a harder time adjusting. My son Spencer just graduated from his DOC band. (We are also in Phx.) He didn't have a hard time adjusting to the band, and we also had his 6 month old shots not long after he got his band. By the time my son got his band, he was already on a schedule, so we just stuck to his routine and he did great adjusting to the band. Best of luck Lorie- Mom to Spencer and Alizabehth 10 months Spencer- left Plagio- DOC Band GRAD Glendale, AZ [sPAM] activity & shots after getting band Hello - I need some advice. I may be just stressing out (my husband thinks so) but what I am worried about is my son gets his band next wed. March 5th. Then on Friday (March 7) my 8 year old is in a play that I'd planned to go to; however, I am worried that with it being so soon after getting the band that maybe I should explain to her that I won't be able to make it. My concern is about if he will be adjusted to the band by that time and driving in the hot car (we are in Phx). Without the band if he gets upset in the car his little head is dripping with sweat. Then I remembered that Calvin's 6 month vaccinations are scheduled for that friday in the morning. Is it a bad idea to have the vaccinations so soon after getting the band? He always runs a fever after getting his vaccinations. I am going to try and reschedule the appt for Monday, but may have a difficult time doing so. So basically, I am worried about taking him out in the hot car to the play 2 days after getting the band, since I don't know how quickly he'll adjust and if getting vaccinations just 2 days after getting the band could be a problem? If I can't reschedule the vaccinations, I definitely won't go to the play since he'll likely be running a fever. Guest guest
I would not keep things the way they are. I would not take him to the play in the helmet on day two. I feel they and you will need time to transition to it. Also, with the shots, I would reschedule for a few weeks down the line. You do not need to get your shots right at the 6 month mark. These are guidelines. The shots really just need to be done by school dependant on your state guidelines. I would be leary of getting shots if he is just new in the band. I held off a few weeks and feel it was the best for us. (I would be concerned also because he runs a fever with them and will be adjusting to the helmet too.) Postpone a bit and take your time getting used to the band. Tammygretchen corey <gretchen_corey@...> wrote: Thank you all for your input. It was exactly what I needed to hear. Guest guest
If this was dinner out or a shopping excursion, I would say stay home. But it's an 8-year-old's play. You have to go. By day 3 of the DocBand, if all goes well, he will be wearing it 23 hours a day already, and all will be fine. If it's not going as well, and there are red spots and such, then leave the band off for the time to go to the play to let his head air out and recoup. The shots definitely, do before he gets it, or a week or two later. If nothing else, it will be one less thing to worry about. But I would not miss my daughter's play, I just couldn't do it. Guest guest
As for the play, I would definitely go to that. I guess if he is not adjusting well to the band, do you have someone that could watch him while you go to the play? As for the shots, does he turn 6 months before or after the band? I would reschedule for before the band because of your son getting fevers after vaccinations; however, if your son won't be 6 months until after the band then I would leave it the same or wait a few days or weeks. I am also in Phx. My son was banded last Feb.-April and did fine. I bought a Cold Seat cover and we also got automatic start so I could cool down the car first. I also would wipe sweat periodically with a dry washcloth and that seemed to help. Good luck..it will go better than you think! > > I would keep things as they are.
