Guest guest
I would go with CT and band. His plagio is mild, but he also has some brachy (flat in back). Our specialist (cranio facial plastic surgeon) recommends banding at 90% and you're very close to that. Combine with some asymmetry I would band. This is your only chance to fix this. After age 2 it is totally out of your control. My daughter wore a starband for brachy. She went from about 97% to about 86%. I would have liked even more improvement - so if you're son is almost 90 - I would band. Banding is much easier than you imagine, and most babies adjust very quickly. Also if you go with CT the band is slightly lighter than other bands, and I don't think it generally makes tort worse (my daughter didn't have tort, but i " ve been in the group about 1.5 yrs). good luck making a hard decision. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad -- In Plagiocephaly , " " <Mitchandjim@...> wrote: > > I now have two contradicting opinions and I dont know what to do... > > We had our consult earlier in the week at CT and they said he > was " mild to moderate " and she said if we didnt do the band he might > get better and it prob wouldnt be very noticable once he had hair. > She recommended the band, but did seem on the fence about it. Guest guest
Without looking at our evaluation papers, I want to say that my son's measurements were identical to the measurements you mentioned for your child and we banded. We saw huge improvements and started at 7.5 months. Good luck. lisa > > > > I now have two contradicting opinions and I dont know what to do... > > > > We had our consult earlier in the week at CT and they said he > > was " mild to moderate " and she said if we didnt do the band he might > > get better and it prob wouldnt be very noticable once he had hair. > > She recommended the band, but did seem on the fence about it. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your replys and support. It is a hard decision for me, but it seems everyone here thinks we should band. I am going to let my hubby read your replys. I do have the appointment with Dr Vicari at Chicago Childrens Hospital next month, and we are waiting for pre-cert from insurance and going on vacation at very end of month anyone, so I figure waiting 2 more weeks wont be the end of the world so I can get one more opinion and measurements from Dr Vicari. I hope the insurance will pay for the second opinion (Childrens WI, and now Childrens Chicago) I am assuming CT doesnt count against my insurance cause their eval was free. I wonder if ANYONE has banded and regretted it.. or not banded and had the asymmetry fix on its own.... maybe I will post that question. Oh, I tried to post pics and had trouble. I will try again tomorrow. If they post it will be under J. :-) Thank you all again SOOO much. I have such trouble with decisions lately.... > > I now have two contradicting opinions and I dont know what to do... > > We had our consult earlier in the week at CT and they said he > was " mild to moderate " and she said if we didnt do the band he might > get better and it prob wouldnt be very noticable once he had hair. > She recommended the band, but did seem on the fence about it. Guest guest
I have heard of a few mom's who had problems with children adjusting to the band - mostly due to allergies and skin problems. This is pretty rare. Also from what I know nearly all of them wished that their child had been able to wear the band, but it didn't work for them. As for asymmetry correcting on its own, it does improve in some cases, but certainly not always. There is a group called OlderPlag where some parents will tell you they missed the chance to band, and still see the problems that doctors said would go away on its own. There are some who corrected enough that the parents are okay with it. Also for any mom you find who regrets banding, I would guess you would find 100 that would do it again in an instant (like me). I know it is tough to get used to the idea, but it is really no big deal after the first few weeks. My daughter has been out of her band for over a year, and it seems like she hardly wore it at all (even though it was 5 mo). Good luck with the decision and enjoy your vacation. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > > > I now have two contradicting opinions and I dont know what to do... > > > > We had our consult earlier in the week at CT and they said he > > was " mild to moderate " and she said if we didnt do the band he > might > > get better and it prob wouldnt be very noticable once he had hair. > > She recommended the band, but did seem on the fence about it.
