Guest guest
Val, My mother has been in and out of hospitals with UTIs since last summer. A few months ago the UTI affected her kidneys(sepsis(sp)). This month she had a UTI plus pneumonia. Could hypothyroid be a cause of these problems? She is 91. Blood test results: They refused to do a FT3 test. Total T3: (range: 1.10-2.00 NG/ml) RESULT: LOW, 0.7 ng/ml. FT4: (range: 0.8-1.9 NG/DL). result: 0.95 NG/DL. Her Tsh was done some months ago . in the 2. range. Her potassium is high, 5.2, so they are speaking with the doctor. (She has not been eating much, ate 3 bananas yesterday.) Sodium: 140 (range: 135-145 MEQ/L) BUN: 18 (range: 10-26 mg/DL) Creatinine: 1.1 (range: 0.6-1.6Mg/DL) BUN/creat Ratio: 16.4 Chloride 104(98-108) Carbon Dioxide: 24 (23-33 meq/L). Her RBC, Hemoglobin, and HCT were all low. Platelet count: high. 455000 (range: 150000- 400000) RDW-CV: high. 16.5 (range: 11-15 %). Eosinophil: high, 6.5(range: 0-5%). Calcium: 9.2 (range: 8.3-10.6 MG/dl) She had small strokes a couple of years ago, has deteriorated mentally(blockage). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jo S. Guest guest
She is definitly hypothyroid btu whether it i at the root of thes eproblems I do nto knwo htough I have heard of UTI's from hypothyroid causes. She should have aldosterone & renin tested as that high potassium is worrisome. Has she been on BP meds? That might cause this. AND the uti's. Low estrogen may also be involved as oftne threy think it is fine for elderly women to have little to no estrogen and I don't think it is. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ http://artisticgrooming.net/ > Val, > > My mother has been in and out of hospitals with UTIs since last summer. > A few months ago the UTI affected her kidneys(sepsis(sp)). Guest guest
No, Val, she is not on blood pressure medication. I doubt that these idiot doctors will do aldosterone and renin. Jo S. Guest guest
My mother-in-law had repeated UTIs. She was constantly on antibiotics. Towards the end of her life, her doctor increased her estrogen (Premarin) and thyroid. One or both of these resulted in a vastly decreased incidence of UTIs. Good luck with your mom. It's worrying.AnnTo: RT3_T3 Sent: Wed, June 30, 2010 6:54:18 PMSubject: Re: Val, I need your help for my mother! No, Val, she is not on blood pressure medication.
