Jo,

I would like to add my thoughts to this

discussion. My mother was in her late 80’s when she began to have UTIs

and it was found out that she simply forgot how to properly clean herself after

urinating or a bowel movement. You mention your mother is in a nursing home, when

my elderly aunt was in a nursing home, they immediately put her in diapers/pull

ups to make it easy on themselves – so they wouldn’t have to send a

staff member every time she needed to use the facilities. When they had her in

diapers, of course the hygiene left a lot to be desired. Good luck, I know it’s

hard being your mother’s advocate.
