I hope someone on here can help me.

My son is now 5 ½ months old. His head started to get flat around 3

months, but my doctor wasn't concerned and kept telling me it would

correct it self with time. I think it has gotten real bad now, that

I'm considering helmet therapy.

Could you please tell me how bad you think my sons head is and do you

think it's so bad he might need a helmet? The pics are in the album

called Ridha.

Hi ,

I'd say your son's head shape would definitely benefit from a helmet. It looks like pretty significant brachycephaly with some asymmetry too. For what it's worth, I think your son's head is more severe than my son's was, and my son's head was considered " moderate " (and he is now in a Starband, seeing great progress). 5 1/2 months is a perfect time to get him into a helmet. I would do it if I were you. If your pediatrician won't write a prescription, you can find another one who will! But even though my pediatrician was against helmeting my kiddo, she still wrote the script for me, so yours might too.

Good luck!

I am no expert, but I would have a second opinion done. DO you have a cranial technologies near you? They will do a free evaluation.

Hello ,

I am new to this site and I am completely amazed with the before and after pictures of all of the different products that are posted on this site. I saw the pictures of your, and she is absolutely beautiful. But I do think that you should look at all of your options and for sure look into getting your her into a helmet or a band. My son is now two and he wore a helmet for about 6 months total. He had to go to a second helmet b/c he out grew the first one. It was very easy to use once we got used to it as did his daycare providers.

I am very happy with the shape of his head now compared to what it was. It is not perfect, but it is not obvious either. I do plan on buzzing his hair this summer because it is not growing in all over. Some places he has long curls, other places just wisps of hair, so by buzzing it, I hope to stimulate growth all over at an equal pace. I do not know if the helmet has something to do with the hair growth issue or not.

The other parents on this site are talking about things that I have never heard of in regards to correcting plagiocephaly. But they sound very encouraging and wish that I had known about them 2 years ago. But once the baby's soft spot closes, the band or helmet would not do anything to help so the sooner you get started the better. Make sure to ask for a prescription from your doctor and when you call your insurance company to see what is cover, stress the issue of positional plagiocephaly. Also when I spoke to the girl that did the billing in the office were he got his helmet, she gave me all of the codes and what they were for, so that I had them when I called my insurance company about coverage. Did she have tortacollis? My son went through PT for about 10 months. We started because of the tortacollis and then just continued through

the year b/c my insurance covered it and he was behind developmentaly. He was born 7.5 weeks early, so everything he did was behind a couple of months. I could ramble on and on about my , so I will stop here. This site is great, I wish that I had know about it 2 years ago. Good luck to everyone. I will be reading.
