Guest guest
You can definitely try. My son's soft spot was closed when we started helmet treatment at 17 months old and it has not been an issue. There has been improvement in his head shape. At 6.5 months, you are in a prime position to try the helmet. What country are you in? What helmet options do you have? Guest guest
hi im a nurse and some of the thing you have been told just dont sit right with me , first of all you have been told that the " soft spot " closes after 4 months all my training contradicts this ,the skull in a infant is made up of 5 plates of bone. inbetwwen each is what is called sutures and they dont normally fuse until between 15 and 18 months, when the brain has finished growing , if your little ones have closed at 6 months it would require surgery to reopen it as there will not be enough roon for the brain to grow .im sure your son dosnt have this as it is very rare and tends to result it a scaph head shape like my son has . it sound to me that your doctor just isnt fond of of is uneducated when it comes to helmets , i really think you should get a second opinion about the helmet as all research suggests that your little one is the ideal age hope that helps alittle kellie-anne > > > > Hi, dear friends! > > I have a little cute son, he is 6,5 months. Guest guest
Hi, ! Thank you very much for your reply. My son was born in Kazakhstan, now we live in Thailand. In both countries there is no experience of helmet treatment. In England we'll be able to go only in July, because of my husband's work, not earlier. My son will be 9 months already. Most of all I worry about his facial assymetry. The left side of his face is slightly less than right side. Especially, we can see the difference between eyes. Friends and relatieves think he has just awaken. Dear what can you say about facial assymetry or your son hadn't? All the best, Naina > > > > Hi, dear friends! > > I have a little cute son, he is 6,5 months. The pediatrician said > that > > his top soft spot nearly to close. Guest guest
Hi Naina- My son does have some facial asymmetry. One side of his face did come forward more at the peak of his plagio when he was about 2-3 months old, but I feel that part of his asym self corrected as he got older. He does have other asym that he was born with. He had/has a dent above the left side of his forehead that presses down slightly on his brow bone, so that his left eye looks just slighly lazy. It's very unnoticeable to anyone else but me, and it's most noticeable in photos and in the mirror. It's also more pronounced when he's tired. It looks like that asym is not going to correct with the band. I just saw our craniofacial/plastic surgeon the other day for a followup and he basically told me he couldn't promise me anything but hopefully the dent would continue to round/pop out as he gets older. So it's really hard to say. There have been many people who get the correction they hope for in the facial asym, but it's possible some don't. The idea is that as the ear asym corrects (which is usually the last to correct), the cheek that is more forward will even out along with the ear and be more symmetrical with the other cheek. I'm not exactly sure what happened with my son, because his cheeks look more even (though not perfect), yet his ears are still very much misaligned. So I can't really say you'll get all the correction you want in that area, but I would say it's still worth doing. Nine months is still a great age to start treatment. Good luck! Guest guest
9 mo is still a good time to begin treatment. I don't really know how the soft spot effects treatment - as far as I it doesn't really. Maybe because it might be smaller on some kids, but would still be open for a long time (not closed by 6 mo). I think if you can band at 9 mo you would see good improvement in both head shape and facial asymmetry. the face might not correct 100%, but it will improve. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > > > > > Hi, dear friends! > > > I have a little cute son, he is 6,5 months. Guest guest
Hi, , Kellie-Anne, ! Thank you very much for your active participation to help other mothers with your wise words and advice. Let your children be always healthy, happy & lucky! Your replyies help me a lot! Yes, I 'll wait till July, carring on with repositioning. I've been repositioning my little prince since his 3,5 months. It helps, but needs long time. In July I'm going to consult with an ortho in England, because Kellie-Anne you're right, here doctors are uneducated about helmets. And they confirm this fact. Hope, , banding will help to improve facial assymetry. I really worry mostly about his face than his head shape. His head shape is not so noticable for people who don't know about plagio at all. , you've calmed down me greatly! Really, my son has a small soft spot since his birth. It was noticed by my friend, she said that her daughter's soft spot was much bigger. But at that time it meant nothing for me. With best regards, Naina Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now.
