Hi ,

sorry you're having such a hard time. Does the helmet fit well? Are

there any red spots. Most babies really don't mind the band. I would

try and stick it out to see if he improves. Also if he isn't

comfortable I would go to the ortho/clinician and see if an adjustment

would help. My dd got her band at 5 mo and didn't mind it at all,

except at night. she wasn't a great sleeper anyway (still isn't) and

our solution was to co-sleep. other than that the band never bothered

her. she learned to sit, crawl and walk while in her band.

Keep us posted.

HI Mellissa! I know exactly how you are feeling and we went through the same thing when Damian got his helmet. He had started to roll over and was always a very chatty and happy baby. The first week or 2 were very rough- he stopped rolling over , was so unhappy when we put it on him and just seemed so bla. We also had to go back several times for adjustments which just made the whole process even more heartbreaking. He would scream and scream and wore himself out so he slept alot. I will tell you know though and 5 weeks into it that Damian is FINE! In fact he's chatty, laughs, and is rolling over just fine. We have more of the problem in his wearing it b/c we want to see his little head and all his hair. But he's ok with it. So hang in there- the first few weeks are rough! Our ortho said it's like when you get a cast for a broken bone- it's a huge adjustment for these little guys. But I do promise it will get better! Keep me posted!, Mom of Damian 6

you are NOT being dramatic! Honestly, when I first found this site I thought I

was the

world's most negative person. Everyone is so positive and supportive and all I

could think

about was how much I hated that dumb helmet instead of being grateful we had it.

Everyone (on the site and off) told me that it gets better and that there are

much worse

conditions are kids could have.

BUT...let's complain for a minute, shall we?

My son is a willful little kid. He took a FULL WEEK to even THINK about

adjusting, so you

are not alone, we are just in the minority. He cried ALL NIGHT and stopped

rolling around,

laughing and playing. My heart was just broken. He would just stay on his back

or smoosh

his face on the floor because the helmet is so heavy (our RHS helmet is 3/4 of a

pound!). I

wondered what I was doing and I just felt terrible when I took off the helmet to

clean and

he went back to his old self!

And, selfishly, I missed having him dressed in a matching outfit (not

coordinated to the

helmet) and people staring at me because I have a cute baby and not because of

the

helmet. I am a person who hates being the center of attention, now everyone is

looking at

us wherever we go.

Okay, enough venting. It gets better! My son still prefers life without the

helmet, but he

doesn't scream non-stop either. I have adjusted, and so has he. Many will tell

you, and it's

true, they sense YOUR attitude about it. I have grown to see this helmet as an

extention of

him and you will too. You are doing the right thing and once you see results,

you will be

glad you did. Plus, I PROMISE YOU, after the first month, it goes by fast. I am

in month 3

and can't believe it!

My heart goes out to you because I felt the same way and I want you to know it

gets better

for everyone, usually it's harder for us first. I'm sure he looks adorable and

this will all just

be a great childhood story one day!

Good Luck,

Hi ,

Our daughter Audrey, who also is seven months, got hers on NYE. We noticed right

away

that she would get subdued and even sad when we would put on the helmet that

first day

or put it back on after skin checks. But now, she is almost used to it.

I PROMISE he will get used to it, even if it takes a few weeks. Every baby is

different,

KWIM?

Hang in there. We had our first check yesterday, and CT doctor was THRILLED with

her

progress in eight days. I couldn't see it just by looking at her head, but

was blown

away.
