We had mild/mod plagio and banded (actually had 2 bands) not only for the plagio but also because of the facial asym.

I wanted to band so that I would have not regets later. I know now that I did what we could when we could.

Mild Brachycephaly to treat or not to treat

My daughter, is 3 days shy of 7mo old. We had our eval at Cranial

Tech. today for Plagio. has mild brachycephaly. She meets the

criteria to band, but just barely. The back of he head is flat (more

noticable when her hair is wet), but she has a ton of hair which hides

it well. We need to make the decision on whether or not to band. My

fear is, if we do not band, her brachycephaly may not improve, with

normal developmental milestones, to a point where her head

looks "normal" and by then, it will be too late to correct. Has

anyone else had to make this decision for a mild case? Are there any

other options out there? Thank you, Kelli

Hi ,

What are her measurements? My son, Max, was 87% CI and we chose to not band and I do not regret it. My daughter, , was 101% CI and she is due to graduate in two weeks from her Docband and we happy we banded. We did start with a local passive helmet and it did nothing at all to correct the brachy so we decided to meet with CT and that is where the above measurements are from.

I posted some pictures and the opinions from everyone in this group helped me to make my decisions.

good Luck, Dawn

I didn't see the whole thread, but I would definitely band at 100%. My

daughter was about that (the starscan measured her at 97% but the doc

measured her at 100%). We banded and it made a huge difference. She

wore her band from 5 to 10 mo old. You can see her before and after

under Our Plagio Babies S/ Sydney M.

If your insurance covers both I might go with CT since they have a

great overall reputation. However there are some very good Hanger

orthos out there too - you just need to check them out, since they

don't all have a lot of experience banding. Also the cost and travel

are big considerations (at least for me). We had a great local

starband provider, and were very happy.
