My son Beck recieved his helmet Friday. We are letting him sleep in it

overnight tonight. I am hoping for some sleep tonight, but not

counting on it. Can anyone else share their experience with this. It

hasn't seemed to bother him during the day, I am not sure what to

expect tonight.

Thanks,

Hi Tonya-

I hope your son does well sleeping in his helmet tonight (I love the

name Beck!). Fortunately, my son had no problems at all from the very

first night, so I hope the same thing for you. If there's a problem, I

would expect it would have to do with how hot he may be, so dress him

as lightly as possible (short sleeves, or a onesie instead of a footed

sleeper), he won't be cold with the helmet trapping his heat in. Also

if you think his temp is fine, it will probably just take some time

for him to find a comfortable position to sleep in.

Good luck! I hope you all sleep well!

The hardest part for me (notice I said "me" and not "my son") was to get him in just the right amount of clothes to where he wasn't too hot or too cold. Once you find out what that is for your son, he and you should be fine. Good luck. I hope you had a good night. How did it go last night? My son just got his STARband and started sleeping in it about two weeks ago. The first few nights were...rough, but it has gotten progressively better. He is 8mo old and had just (finally) started sleeping through the night a week before he received his helmet. Now, it's hard for him to find his paci by himself again because they keep getting stuck behind the part at the base of his head in the back. I leave four or five in there, but he's still struggling!

,

Last night was tougher for me than it was for him. He woke up about 4 times. The last time I had to put him in the bed with me. Hope tonight is better. Thanks to all who have responded to my email.

Tonya, sorry it was so rough! Will you have to go to work today or do you stay home? 's first night was rough too. He kept screaming and I kept going in there and giving him his paci or rocking him (which i never do). I finally took it off around midnight and checked for sore spots. I turned the light on and everything, but I didn't see anything so I put the helmet back on. The next morning I took it off to dress him and found a large, quarter sized sore it had rubbed on his sweet little head! I felt horrible. It swelled up really big-imagine cutting a ping pong ball in half and putting it on an eight month old's head! What a disaster! We had to

leave the helmet off for a few days while that healed and the ortho shaved the helmet for us so it wouldn't happen again. I felt really bad, but all is well now. He's been wearing it almost three weeks and is getting used to it more and more. I'm sure tonight will be better. I hope so! Let us know!
