Hi Jenn-

Welcome to the group! We live in Raleigh and drive to Charlotte to

go to Cranial Tech for my son's DocBand. My husband is actually from

there, so we are able to stay at my in-laws when we go for an

adjustment. is our therapist there and we really like him. My

son has had his band for just over 6 weeks, and is 18 months old, so

we only go for adjustments every 3 weeks. We're due for one on

Monday, so we'll be making the trek to Charlotte on Sunday afternoon.

My son's asymmetry measurements were 15mm for both traditional

cranial vault and skull base (ear). He also measured 19mm for

cranial vault, but , who did his initial assessment, said

that the two numbers that mattered were the traditional cranial

vault and skull base. He is considered on the high end of moderate.

Feel free to email me with any questions! I'd love to chat!

Hi Jenn

Welcome! We live right outside of Charlotte (Tega Cay, SC) and my son (11 months old) is in his second DOC band. He wore the first from 6-9 months and started the second at 10 months. His CVA started at 20mm and after the first band was down to 9mm. His skull base asymmetry started at 15mm and ended at 9mm. He was considered severe when we started treatment. We decided to do a second band because he was borderline mild/moderate. They said his correction should get down to about 5mm.

is our therapist at CT. The entire office is very nice and extremely knowledgeable. It has been a great experience for us. We are so glad we banded and the improvement is unbelievable. Good luck and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email.

Thanks for your response. I can't believe you guys drive all the way

to Charlotte, but it is worth it. We are going to the location off

of Morehead. I am not sure if there are any other locations besides

that one. Out therapist is Kathy; she seems very nice and easy to

deal with.

Will you son need two bands? How are they adjustments and results

doing? I hope you are seeing results already.

Hope you guys have a safe and fun trip next week. I will probably

ask questions as everything starts.

Thanks,

Joy,

Thanks for your response. Clover is a nice area. We like to drive

around there because it is quiet and good scenery. How old is Emma.

Is she doing good with the band so far? I hope everything is going

well. We see Kathy at CT.

Hope everything goes will for your daughter.

Thanks,

Hi Jenn-

Morehead is the only location, so that's where we go as well. We

could have gone to UNC Hospital for a StarBand, but Cranial Tech had

a good reputation for treating older babies, so because of my son's

age, I really thought it was the best way to go. We actually started

seeing a little bit of change in his flat spot the very first week,

so for me, it confirmed that we had made the right decision. His

flat spot is definitely rounding out, but his forehead has pretty

severe bossing (at least to me it's severe) and that's a slower

process. But again, age factors into it and we still have more than

half of the treatment to go, so I'm still hopeful. Because of his

older age, I just don't think 2 bands would be feasible/economical.

I am really hoping that 1 band will do enough for my guilt-ridden

conscience, but we'll see!

Jenn,

We are over your way quite a bit...Target, etc. We moved to Tega Cay from Yorkshire which is on 49 about one mile from Target. It is a small world.

Louden did very well with the first helmet and is doing equally great with his second. I've noticed that he is sweating a little more since he is more active and has more hair. He had the first one in the winter, so there were no heat issues. I thought he'd try to pull it off, but he seems to be fine. It's been three weeks and we can already see a difference in his head. We wavered on whether or not to do the second since he was borderline mild, but I'm glad we did. I think you'll be very pleased with the results. His picture is posted in the "L" file under our plagio babies...."Louden". You can see the difference the first helmet made.

Good Luck to you! Have you been to Fiesta Plaza? It's a great indoor play area for 2-5 year olds and the babies can stay cool in their strollers. I'm sure I'll have the same problem with Louden and being outside. I have a three year old son with a ton of energy!

Staci,What a small world. We are actually not far from Tega Cay. We live right over the border in Charlotte off of 160. This area is great. It is great to see your son is getting great results. I just wish it could all be done in the first band. Our son, , is also considered severe. His CVA is at 22 and SBA at 18. The funny thing is, when we look at him and other people look at him, you really don't notice unless you mention it and they still question us for even saying it. I know it is there because I know what to look for and in that wrong light, you can see it. I am very excited to see how the band will work. How did you son do with the first helmet? Did he have a lot of problems with the heat? I am a little bummed out because it is warming up and I worry about taking him out in the warm weather. I am going to have to find a way to get him outside because of my 2 1/2 year old. I guess we will take that day by day.Oh, we are seeing Kathy at CT. She seems very nice and is good with kids. I guess you have to be if you are in this business. Thanks again.Jenn> >> > Hi everyone. My son, who is 7 months old, was just casted today.> We> > should be receiving our Doc band on April 9. Hi , and welcome to the group. I am so glad to hear that

your casting went well. Most parents are so afraid that casting is

going to be traumatic for their little ones, but in most cases, it is

harder on us parents! :)

I can't explain the measurements very well but I know someone will

(or maybe already has) chime in and help you out with that. :)

No kidding. The bands are very expensive. I am hoping to get a lot

of results up front, but you never know what can happen. It all

depends on how the child grows and stuff. We decided to pay it all

up front and then fight the insurance company on our own. I know it

will be a struggle, but it was the only way we can get the band on

ASAP. I wish insurance companies didn't take so long to process

paper work, but that is what they are good at.

Thanks. I think the hardest part of the casting was keeping out son

upright and not moving for a few minutes. I guess I forgot how

strong a baby can be when they are determined to move, hahaha.
