Guest guest
Hi- Are they being casted or fitted (actually getting the helmet)? If it's the casting, bring along bottles, sippy cups, or pacifiers, whatever will keep their attention away from the casting process. Or if they're old enough, lollipops. My son had a sippy cup for the first part where they lay down to lay the plaster over the head, but it was gone by the time he sat up for the second part and was just plain mad, so he just screamed and grunted the rest of the time. It goes by quickly though and after some hugs, he was fine. (So maybe bring two bottles/sippy cups, just in case they chug the first one!) Some places do the whole casting sitting up. I think it's mainly the stocking over the head and being held down that doesn't sit very well for most babies. Good luck! Guest guest
The best thing I had at casting was my mom. She performed. My son just watched her. She did Pat-a-cake and sang If You're Happy and You Know It. (Now that I think about it, he probably tried to pull his hands free so he could clap.) Not all kids are that mild mannered. It worked for mine. > > > > Hi, > > > > My twins are being fit for their helmets tomorrow - any tips or > suggestions on how they (and me!) can get through the process? > > > > Also, anyone know of an artist in the Los Angeles area who could > paint our helmets? > > > > Thanks everyone! > > > > > > > > > > > _____________________________________________________________________ > _______________ > > Be a better friend, newshound, and > > know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
We took some milk in with us for our son to drink for the first half of the casting. If your twins take a pacifier, take that with you. It seems to calm them when they have something to suck on. For you, remember to wear clothes that you wouldn't mind if they get a bit messy and remember to stay calm. Your children can sense if you are tense. It really isn't that bad and it is over before you know it. Our son didn't mind it all. The only time he cried was when his milk ran out. Good luck! Guest guest
Oh my - twins! We just had our casting done 2 weeks ago for my son. I was nervous about it and came ready with bottle, pacifier, etc. I too thought the stocking over the head was gonna cause a meltdown. He actually thought it was funny.... he laughed through the entire first part of the casting. I tried to give him a pre-emptive bottle but he just drooled it down his face as he smiled at me. The back section was a little tense, but only because my LO prefers to stand supported whenever possible and we had to hold him in a sitting position. Good luck tomorrow! Let us know how it goes!
