hi everyone,

i'm in chicago, and just in case, does anyone know if BCBS HMO (blue advantage)

covers the

band? i read in the archives here that BCBS-IL does, but am not sure if it

applies to HMO

coverage.

Also , if i were to go to cranial tech for a free evaluation, do I need my

pediatrician's referral

for that first?

Thanks!

Hi-

I'm not sure about your insurance plan specifically. But I did not

need a referral to go to Cranial Tech. I'm not sure if that would

depend on your insurance coverage as well, but I don't need

referrals to go to other doctors and I have BCBS of NC (federal

employee program). So I guess if maybe you typically need a referral

to see a specialist or something, than you might need one for CT as

well (and I'm speaking more of the written referral, not a

verbal " go see this guy " kind of referral). But I would doubt it.

I'm not sure they would fall into the same category as specialist or

doctor. They did not ask me for a referral, but they would't make an

appointment for the casting until I had the script in hand.

Good luck with your insurance!

I have BCBS of IL and live in Indiana. I did not need a referral to

see the orthotist but did need a prescription from my ped. for my

insurance to approve coverage of the helmet. We also had to prove that

we had done aggressive repositioning for 2 months before they would

approve my sons helmet. We were able to have our PT write a letter to

the insurance company to prove this. In all it took 2 months for

approval, one month for them to tell us they needed the letter from our

PT and another month to approve it. The process could have been worse.

Ditto, it cleared and was covered minus our deductible.

hi i was just wondering what type of insurance do you have that took that long to get an approval? We have medicaid and i am afraid it will take a long time to get it for my daughter. Does your son have tortecollis too or just plagiocephaly? Re: Just in case -- BCBS of IL covering the DOC band?
