Guest guest
It could sort of be true in that his head resting in the same position on the mattress a lot the time means it won't grow in that direction. However, even a softer mattress would be the same. It is more a function of not varying the head position while he is sleeping, or resting on other surfaces such as bouncy seat, swing, car seat... My daughter also had brachy. In her case I think another big factor was that hear head grew extra fast the first 6 mo (jumping from the 5oth percentile to the 90th). All that growth at a time when she was on her head a lot was a problem. Especially since I didn't know to vary the position of her head (and the ped didn't help when I asked about her head at 2 mo and was told " don't worry " ). Bottom line... I doubt it has much to do with this particular mattress. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > Hi, my son was helmeted about 4 weeks ago with brachy. Guest guest
that's very interesting about your daughter's rapid head growth. i went to the walk-in clinic regarding another matter and the pediatrician there happened to graph out my son's head measurements. she was certain the first measurement was wrong because he too, went from 50th p at birth to over 90th by 4 months or so. i told her his head wasn't exceptionally big at birth yet i noticed that it is quite large now compared to his playmates. she didn't think it was particularly large. i also felt his plagio was due to his rapid head growth in such a short time and the fact that we didn't reposition him regularly. thanks for reaffirming my theory! jennchristineashok <christineashok@...> wrote: It could sort of be true in that his head resting in the same positionon the mattress a lot the time means it won't grow in that direction. However, even a softer mattress would be the same. Guest guest
My daughter had a firmer mattress and had no plagio, whereas my son had a softer mattress and he has plagio and brachy (that is thankfully being corrected with a band!). We all have enough guilt about how we could have, would have, should have done something differently to cause our baby’s plagio or brachy – when I am sure we are all just trying to do the best for our kids with the information we have at the time. Don’t worry about what your mom says about the mattress. The SIDS guidelines say a firm mattress so buying a firm mattress was doing the best you could to prevent SIDS. I agree with ...I think that it is a matter of rotating a child's head while sleeping. Now, if a child always sleeps in the same position then yes I think that could cause plagio but I think it could happen firm or soft mattress. APA recommends a firm mattress to avoid SIDS. Honestly, I don't think any of us know the exact reason why our child's head became mis-shappened (assuming that it wasn't utero). > > > > Hi, my son was helmeted about 4 weeks ago with brachy.
