Guest guest
Has anyone had issues with heat rashes with the DOC band? My son has been in the band for 2 weeks and has developed a rash. CT said to remove the band every 2-3 hrs and wipe his head and then apply Cortaid twice a day, however, the rash seems to be getting worse and not better. I am not sure how the rash will get better without leaving off the helmet for long periods of time, but we have already seen such significant improvement in only 2 weeks and I would hate to have him not wear it... Guest guest
This is a question that is "near and dear" to my heart! My daughter was in her band for one month. Never had a red mark, and she was making significant progress. During the second month, she started developing a severe heat rash. I am talking about a rash in several spots on her head and neck (sometimes the side burn areas) and it actually peeled after a couple of days (there was oozing involved, etc). What a mess! Is this kind of what you are experiencing? It took on average seven days to heal each time it happened. Finally, I said "no more", and she has recently been fitted for the Orthoamerica Starlight band (no padding). So far, so good, but we haven't taken measurements since the new band. I would definitely suggest seeing your pediatrician. We used 1% hydrocortisone and vaseline (equal parts). It seemed to help, but it isn't going to keep the heat rash from occurring. In our experience, the rash did not heal without removing the helmet. Very frustrating, I know. Please keep posting. Some kids just get hotter than others. I guess our kids have hot heads, huh? Guest guest
Luckily my son has not the oozing yet. It's localized in on area on the back of his head and is just red and bumpy. My son definately runs warmer than the normal kid too as I found out when his temp was being monitored regularly when he was born. (He had a 10 day stay in the NICU) Good luck with the new band!
