Hey Everyone,

My 6 1/2 month old Nikki was diagnosed with plagio and left tort on

Friday the 11th. I am semi concerned about the severity of her

plagio. I am new to this, so forgive me when I try to explain this. It

may be hard to understand. When the ortho measured her head he went

from the left side of her forehead to the back right of her head and

got a measurement of 12.2cm (the affected side). He then measured from

the right side of her forehead to the back left of her head and got a

measurement of 14.5 cm (non-affected side). This scares me because I

hear people talking in millimeters and my daughter is asymmetrical by

2.3 cm which is 23mm. Is this okay? Has anyone dealt with this before?

Thanks for your help

My son had 20 mm asymmetry and is in a DOC band now. Above 15 cm is considered severe, but can definitely be helped. He started right around 6 - 6 1/2 months of age and has almost grown out of the current band. We go to CT tomorrow for measurements to see how much it's improved in a three month time span. I will let you know. I can see a big difference.

Hi Molly,

We are banding. They cast her on the 15th for the Bivalve Starband.

We have her fitting on the 25th. My orthotist seems to feel that

time is of the essence if we're going to get the optimal correction.

I can't say that I disagree.

Do you know anything about the Bivalve Starband? It seems like most

people had gone with the normal Starband, but the ortho wanted the

Bivalve to help correct some minor (in my opinion) asymmetry issues

that exist on her browline and also at her temples.

Hi Jen!

We will be banding her on the 25th of January. She's getting the

Bivalve Starband due to some asymmetry on her forehead. She also has

left tort and right plagio like your little Luli. That said, we are

also in PT. The Dr doesn't feel comfortable telling me when she will

be done with the band quite yet, so I'm crossing my fingers for lotsa

growth.

Thank you!
