If you notice that they aren't fading and the skin looks irritated, I

would take it off until they fade...Then maybe put it on for another

hour and check to see if they've returned...Also, if they are dark pink

or red that's probably not good...light pink is ok...It may just need

to be adjusted on Monday, but keep a close eye on them because if they

get too raw, then it will be hard to get rid of them... I know it's

hard to gauge at first, but just use your best judgement until you can

see your LO again...as for the sweating, it diminishes significantly

after the first few weeks (at least mine did) just keep him as cool and

dry as possible until then...good luck

Hi a-

I am not sure which band you are using, but my son has a DOCBand and

we were in a similar situation his first week. We came up on a Friday

afternoon and he had this one small red spot in the center of his

forehead bulge, about the size of a dime. I called CT that afternoon

and the therapist said that as long as it did fade somewhat and didn't

get any worse, it was ok to leave it on him until Monday. So the red

spot would fade, but not entirely, and each time I would check it,

would be less red to begin with, so that by Monday it was even smaller

and basically just pink. So I'm not sure how much that helps you, but

I guess my theory is the same as the therapists: as long as it does

fade some/mostly in the hour, and doesn't seem more inflamed each time

you check it, it should be fine for the weekend.

Good luck!

How long do they stay red? Is it pink or angry red?

You don;t want to skin to break down so if it's angry red then for sure don;t put it back on... call the office... they may have an answering service that can get a mesage to the ortho. Then they can advise what to do.

I'm to this group. My son Domenic just got his helmet on Wednesday. He

seems to have adjusted well so far, the sweating is pretty bad though.

My question is he seems to have some red spots that haven't faded

after having the helmet off for an hour. Should I remove the helmet

all weekend until I get a hold of the office on Monday?

TIA,

a

We had a similar experiance with the red spots the first weekend. We

just removed the starband and went in to have it adjusted on Monday.

If the spots fade somewhat you can put hydrocortisone cream on them and put the

helmet back on. My son Dominic is also in a starband. By the next day they

were gone. If they are still really red then leave the helmet off and go in for

an adjustment.

My baby has been wearing his helmet now for 1 week. Since he has to

keep it on longer now, I noticed a big red spot on his forehead and his

ear area. However, it did not go away after the hour was up. It

almost look like a blister is starting. I'm reluctant to put it back

on his head. Have you experience this? If so, please reply.

Just to chime in about the red spots. I gave my son a bath last night and because he has eczama and a new red spot that looked to be on the precipice of being a blister I put oatmeal in his bath and rubbed it all over him and the put Desonide lotion on his entire head and face. That is an Rx for eczema and basically a steroid creme. I think this helped soothe him and keep his scalp from flaring up. Also as far as how long to keep it on I swear dr said average of 21 hours and the orthotist 23 or the other way around but they weren't consistent. I don't think its a huge deal and we give 1 hour beaks when he wakes up and 1 before bed and 2 or 3 15 min during tummy time or eating to break it up. To compare it to diaper rash (as your ortho did) seams a little harsher to me than general heat rash. I think of diaper rash as more painful, heat rash just seems like red skin in comparison, not as much moisture as heat being the problem. I would probably check with your ortho about the hydrocortizone cream just to be sure before using it (I wouldn't want it to sting or anything). Also, if your daycare is comfortable with taking the band off and on, maybe they could take it off a couple of times a day to wipe his head down and let the sideburn area dry. If they keep it to 15 minutes or less each time (it really should only take about 5), you still have a half hour at night to give him his bath. The tech told us it was like a diaper rash, and we should do our best to keep it dry. He's in daycare, so all we can do is hope they are keeping him clean as best as possible. > > > > Does anyone have any ideas or remedies for red spots? Thanks for any info! > > > > > > -Rob > > >
