Guest guest
We also went back to swaddling with our little guy, which has helped him to fall asleep in the band, but alas not to stay asleep. He was a once-a-night waker before and now we are up 2-3 times in the night. We're 2 weeks in and pretty sleepy, but we figure we'll just stick it out and sleep when he graduates... -Pam On 2/10/08, hniemeyer74 <hniemeyer74@...> wrote: The second night was actually worse than the first but she's also come down with some sort of virus so I took it off half way through the night when she just became hysterical. Guest guest
Jack has been in his Starband since 5 months and never had a problem with it. In fact,he fell asleep with it on the way back from the orthotist! Just remember to take it off during times of fever,as it has a tendency to retain heat. Good Luck! Guest guest
So we got through our first night ok - he was up about 4 times. One of the issues was that the helmet kept tilting forward over his eyes and i'm sure he was scared when he woke up and couldn't see anything. Cranial Technologies said the helmet has to be a little loose b/c he's going to start growing into it immediately. Any suggestions for keeping the band from covering his eyes when he's shifting around in his crib? Also, we turned the AC way up last night and we were freezing, I think he was ok. What temperature do you keep your house at when the weather outside is around 90 degrees? We did buy a fan for his room to keep it extra cool. Any other suggestions for helping him sleep through the night (or at least having less wake ups) would be so helpful to two exhausted parents. Thanks!!! Guest guest
Hey Cary! Glad your first night was okay and that it's behind you. is 8 months old and had finally started sleeping through the night one week before he got his STARband three weeks ago. The reason he had finally started sleeping all night long without me having to go in there was because he learned how to look for his own paci and replug! When he started sleeping in the helmet we had the same problem of it slipping over his eyes and he could no longer get his own paci. It kept getting lodged under the back side of the helmet. It's still a kind of an issue, but it's better because I've got four or five pacifiers in there! So that helps and I worried the orthotist until she shaved off a little above his eyes. I had to ask more than once, but she finally did it and it's much better now. Does your baby use a pacifier or something else he can't see now that the band is obstructing his view? > > So we got through our first night ok - he was up about 4 times. Guest guest
dress him lightly too. We used a onsie and no socks through most of my daughters treatment - we had lots of different onsies. she had a few summery no-sleeve outfits, but other than that is was usually a onsie, even for sleeping. we were in northern ca so nights did cool off. Then we would add a thin blanket or sleep sack. he'll probably get more used to the band and wake up less as the week goes on. -christine > > So we got through our first night ok - he was up about 4 times. Guest guest
- yes, our son also uses a paci but usually it falls out in the night and he still sleeps through the night. But maybe he is waking up looking for it (or just wanting to look around) and with the band over his eyes he can't see. I'm definitely going to ask the ortho to shave off some over his eyes tomorrow so he can see. Thanks! > > > > So we got through our first night ok - he was up about 4 times. > One of the issues was that > > the helmet kept tilting forward over his eyes and i'm sure he was > scared when he woke up > > and couldn't see anything. Guest guest
I really hope you get the covered eye issue figured out. Just keep in mind that CT may tell you they can't remove too much because the front of the band is helping to provide holding points that are needed to help reshape his head. Removing too much may hinder that process. My son's band comes down over his eye brows, but he can still see. Also, once he grows into it a little bit, it should be more stable on his forehead and lift upward slightly. Please let us know what they say tomorrow.
