Guest guest
Hi: I have PSC (21 years) and had UC until 1998 when I got my colon removed and had a Illestomy. They left a little bit of my rectum there (closed off) so I could get a J-Pouch at a future date (At the time, the preferred method took 3 operations, not 2). I've been happy with the illeostomy as I never 'have' to go and was (and am) quite active (Bicycled through the Rocky mountains 4 times - 300-700 miles each). I used to ride a bike (commute) every day. I've always held the option open but was always worried about potential drawbacks. With the Illeostomy it's basically a cosmetic drawback. Those of you that have gotten J-Pouches, what has your experience been like? Positive? How often do you get 'Pouchitis'? Do you ever have urgency like we all used to have? How many times a day do you 'go'. (I empty a lot since I used to eat a lot). Anyway, I still have the option open and would love to hear some experiences, especially long term ones.
