Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have a few questions that seem like they should have a simple answer but I'm not sure what the correct answers are. 1. Since my son has a little bit of flattening on his right side, when he has tummy time which way should his head look? Sometimes he lifts his head during tummy time and other times he doesn't. 2. How much tummy time should he be having each " wake " period? 3. He has a 6 hour stretch at night and during that time I am not getting up to reposition. During the day he typically has 3 naps in his crib and 1 nap in the swing with the boppy noggin nest (is that bad? I'd prefer him in the crib but dinner time/bath/bed for are older one is crazy and his fussy time so the swing seems to help). His wake periods are about an hour in length including feeding time. How much time during the day should be laying on his back, looking left to try and balance out the 2 sides? I don't want to " over correct " ...but just even out the 2 sides. 4. I also am wondering if he is in the boppy noggin nest and looking left could that cause his head to grow out even more? I would think that he'd have to be in the noggin nest for an extended period of time for any outward growth through the hole...is that correct? 5. Any other tips would be great. Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi , My little guy is 8 weeks old today. Thanks for the tips. That is what I thought with the tummy time but wasn't sure. Our 22 month old wore a DOC band so I've been doing all the things they say to prevent plagio and scrutinizing my 8 week old son's head since day 1. Hopefully, since I caught it at the first sight of change (so it is very mild) we will be able to gain full correction with continuing to do everything to prevent plagio. Ya, I didn't see results with repositioning either but I do think it did help my 22 month old's head from getting worse. We also didn't start till he was older as I didn't know that I should be doing more than just tummy time (and I thought tummy time was only for strengthing neck mucsles). > > From my experience with Cranial Tech, they said that during tummy time, he should not lay on the side that is flat. he can look to both sides, but not lay on the flat side. The same goes for repositioning during sleep if you choose to do that or choose to prop a towel or something under him in the swing. He should be putting pressure on the side that is not flat when he can and is sleeping and it is safe. We also put a towel in the car seat and bouncy seat when we needed. Another suggestion i did not try is to sew a onesie into his pajamas so that he is forced to lay on the other side. Of course, depending on the severity of the flattening and how old your son is, you want to watch that it corrects and as it does, allow him to change sides on his own. We were also told that repo would be as successful after 5 or 6 mos due to the tendency to move around in their sleep and such. How old is your son? Is he tolerable to new positions? Our pediatrician said > to do tummy time as much as the child will allow. My one son allows this a lot and his twin does not, so it just depends. otherwise, i would use an exercauser with blankets to support him when he can hold his head fairly well. Just some ideas I have found to work, especially since I have two little guys. We had to stop using a repositioner when our son got too big, too fast... he could roll out of it into any position he wanted and it became a safety issue in the crib. We have just banded him this week and he is doing great. We did not see great results with repo, but a lot of people have.... good luck and keep up the very hard work... > > > repositioning questions > > Hi everyone, > > I have a few questions that seem like they should have a simple > answer but I'm not sure what the correct answers are. > > 1. Guest guest
, On the amount of time for tummy time - I was told as much time as possible. My son hated tummy time and would only tolerate it for a few minutes at a time. I was told by his physical therapist to put him on his belly for as long as he would tolerate it as many times as I could during the day. It seemed that on a good day for us that would be about six or seven times. One of the other things his physical therapist suggested that really helped alot was putting something under his chest during tummy time to get his face up off the floor. I've seen people use a very flat boppy pillow for this but what I found worked the best was the wedge shaped pillow that they sell as a pregnancy support pillow. My son was much more tolerant of tummy time once I started using it. As far as which way their head should look, if your son favors looking to the right (which I would expect based on a litte flattening on the right side) you'd want to try to encourage him to look to the left. Hope this helps a little. Best of luck. > > Hi everyone, > > I have a few questions that seem like they should have a simple > answer but I'm not sure what the correct answers are. > > 1. Guest guest
I just posted a new picture of the back of Grant's head (our plagio babies F-G folder) as the other one was kind of from the right side which accentuated the assymetry. > > Hi everyone, > > I have a few questions that seem like they should have a simple > answer but I'm not sure what the correct answers are. > > 1. Guest guest
Hi , I think his head looks pretty good. I saw your message about PT, and it seems to make sense to at least get an evaluation by a PT specializing in tort. It seems it would be much easier now to do some stretches, but I would want to make sure they are appropriate for such a young baby. This would probably prevent things from getting worse. It doesn't sound bad at all, but if he isn't looking to one side much down the road that might result in more asymmetry. Hopefully your ped will be willing to do this now, versus waiting to see if it is going to get worse. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > I have a few questions that seem like they should have a simple > > answer but I'm not sure what the correct answers are. > > > > 1. Guest guest
Hi , I looked at Grant's pics and I think his head looks great! What are your concerns with his head at the present? Is there some flattening that you see that maybe is not showing in the pics? I know this sometimes happenns where in person the baby's head can look a lot different then the pics show. > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > I have a few questions that seem like they should have a simple > > answer but I'm not sure what the correct answers are. > > > > 1. Guest guest
Hi and , Thanks for looking at the new picture. Overall, Grant's head does look great to me but I think because I've watched it so carefully from day 1 I picked up the first sign of change. With that said, the assymetry is VERY subtle and the pics do show for the most part what I see but you can see a little bit more in person When I took my older son to the doctor last week, I had him look at Grant's head and he agreed that his head is slightly off but that since it is so subtle we should be able to correct it with repositioning. I will ask the pediatrician on Thursday about a PT eval. From my experience, I'm guessing that my pediatrician will send me for the eval as he always seems to honor my requests. I'll let you know what he says. Hopefully, that will help him to want to turn equally both directions. Thanks, > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > I have a few questions that seem like they should have a simple > > answer but I'm not sure what the correct answers are. > > > > 1.
