Guest guest
We have our first consult Tuesday afternoon with Cranial Tech in CT. We'll be seeing an occupational therapist for neck excercises and repositioning techniques. Elijah has plagio and not sure if tort is involved or not. has scaphocephaly. They both HATE tummy time so I'm hoping I can get some help on that front. What else should I expect from the appt? The woman who scheduled the appt said we'd be there close to 3 hours. I'm feeling more guilt the closer we get to having to go. Being born at 32 weeks they've already endured so much and I feel so crappy that this is just something else I can't protect them from. I am glad though that I was able to find this group and I'm sure with the extra support I'll be ok.
Guest guest
We will be at the CT in Conn on Tuesday too! They are really wonderful there. My son will have had his band 9 weeks by then and I think we are looking at 4 more after that. The time really has flown by!! I completely know what you mean about feeling like your babies have already been through so much. We have been doing PT for over 6 months now for Logan's very stubborn torticollis and he still hates it. He is a really sensitive baby and all winter long I could not get him to wear a hat because he hated things on his head. I was so worried about how he would do with it and the decision to band was a very difficult one for us. I am so glad we did though, because the improvements have been incredible and Logan's adjustment to the band was remarkably easy. He doesn't mind wearing it in the least bit. I am honestly afraid that he won't sleep as well once he graduates because he seems to like it pressing against his head while he sleeps! It's wonderful that you are able to take your babies while they are still so young. We wasted a lot of time first with repositioning, then finding a place that we were comfortable with and finally with frustrating insurance things. We were finally able to band Logan at 7.5 mos. but I wish we had been able to do it sooner. If I can answer any questions about the CT in Conn, please feel free to ask! Best of luck with whatever you decide to do! Guest guest
Finding this group helped me sooo much in the beginning and still does...We have similar situations, twin boys, even similar names oddly enough...mine are Eli and Gage...and Eli (short for Elijah) had left plagio and has rt torticollis as well...Gage had brachycephaly and both were in DOC bands for 2.5 mos... the beginning is scary not knowing, but once you meet with the LO ask all of your questions and that should put you at ease...casting may cause some tears, but if your boys have had to endure other issues due to prematurity I'm sure you will have the strength to get through it...it was the best decision we ever made to band the boys, and you are lucky that you have caught it so early on (mine were 7.5 mos old when they began wearing them)...you should see great correction for them both, and they won't even know they are wearing them most of the time...good luck and feel free to contact me anytime @ keejaylove@... Shenelle Katy, TX > > Welcome to the Group. Don't at all feel guilty. All in all the how banding experience is always harder on the parent then it is the child. I to have twins (boy/girl). My son was in a DOC band for 12 weeks for left plagio. He adjusted quickly and had no problems with the band. At your appointment they will take measurements on the boys and they will also take pictures.(at least this is how things went when I had my consultation) Don't be afraid to ask questions. Looking back at things, I wished I had asked more questions. I'm sure your boys will do great. > Best of luck > > Lorie > Mom to Spencer and Alizabeth 1 year > Spencer- Left Plagio- DOC Band GRAD 9/07-12/07 > Glendale, AZ > [sPAM] New to the group with 3 1/2 month old twin boys seeing CT on Tuesday > > > We have our first consult Tuesday afternoon with Cranial Tech in CT. > We'll be seeing an occupational therapist for neck excercises and > repositioning techniques. Guest guest
Welcome! Plagio and tort are more common with twins because of their contricted space and weird positioning, so please don't beat yourself up over it. You're doing what you can for them and that's all anyone can ask. The beginning of the process can be scary and stressful, but once they are in the bands and you start seeing results, it will all be worth it. I just wanted to suggest, since the boys hate tummy time, my son had tort and part of his PT was stability ball work. If you have one of those big exercise balls, you lay them on their tummy (one at a time obviously!) on top of the ball but kind of leaning back on it a little. You can bounce them a little or slowly sway them side to side (which is really good for the neck muscles because they have to tilt their heads to balance). It might be more fun for them than tummy time alone, so it might be worth a try, whether there is tort involved or not. Good luck with everything at CT on Tuesday! (BTW we were at CT- Charlotte for about an hour and a half for our first eval, so I guess it's double that for twins!). Guest guest
Welcome to the group. plagio is really common with twins (too squished) and premies, so they started off with two risk factors that you couldn't prevent. Don't beat yourself up about it. They are still young and you are getting a good start on resolving things. I'm sure they'll do well, and if they do end up in bands, that will be fine too. My daughter wore a band for brachy (flat in back) and did wonderfully. Guest guest
You can do it and you are doing all you can to help your little ones. My son was born full tern and wound up in the ICU for a week and also had plagio so it affects us all. Dont feel guilty. Cranial Tech and the DOC band are great and I am sure you will love the staff and the results. I went to Cranial Tech in Paramus NJ and drove from Long Island and going to this facility was worth the drive. I do not know the orthos at the CT location but call and ask that your appointment be with the most veteran ortho, sometimes they try and give you a new one if you do not request an experienced one. We were given to a tech only their 6 months and requested the most senior ortho who was there for over 2 years. In my opinion you are paying good money and it is your childs head go for the experience. If they have to reschedule you then so be it. Waiting a day is worth it. I am sure I have heard of other mothers on the board using CT Cranial Tech. Send out a post headed with what ortho to see in this facility and you will find out who they liked and disliked. I know everyone has to learn but my issue is they dont have to learn on my kids head! Good luck and be ready to write down the measurements you are given and possibly cast that day if you are going to do it and they have the time. We casted the same day so we didnt need to drive the hour and a half back. Best decision we ever made. In the band from 4 months out in 8 weeks. Doing great. Guest guest
Welcome! I too have twin boys (born at 36 weeks). Both boys are currently wearing DOCbands for right plagio and both have left tort. They are currently 7 months and are also having PT for their tort. I had many of the same feelings that you are having. Don't blame yourself. They are lucky to have a mother who is looking into ways to resolve their plagio/scaph. My boys also hated tummy time. I used a toy from Babies R Us that was manufactured by Boppy that really helped. It consisted of a mat that looked like a leaf and a minature boppy pillow with toys attached. It really helped to get the boys used to tummy time and now they both enjoy it without the boppy. Good luck and email if you have questions.
