Helmet Cost Question

Hi all,

I thought of another question about helmets. As I have posted

before, I really do not know if we are to the point of needing a helmet

or not? And I am not totally sure if Kaylie's asymmetry in her face is

from plagio or tort. Her appointment is Tuesday, but me being such a

planner was wondering if we are led in the helmet direction, how much

do they typically cost? I haven't checked with insurance yet to see if

it is covered, but just wondered incase it isn't how much we might pay

for the helmet, adjustments etc.

Thanks alot!

You all have made this so much easier already.

Hello! It depends on the provider. Cranial Technologies charges $3300. If you pay in one lump sum, they give you a $300 discount. This includes everything after the free consultation (casting, adjustment appointments, etc). If your insurance is in-network, they will file for you like your pediatrician's office. If you are out of network, you pay for it and file the claim yourself for reimbursement. If your child needs a second helmet, if they outgrow the first and still need further correction, the cost is the same...$3300 for the second helmet. The amount paid by insurance companies varies from zero to 100%. In my son's case, torticollis was the sole cause of his plagiocephaly.

Hope this helps!

We went with the DOC band for 3000$ paid on a credit card to earn air miles! We then submitted to NY Empire United Healthcare using the help of Cranial Tech employee dedicated to insurance issues. We got back 2400 or so of the 3000. We were happy with the return using insurance but would have gotten the band regardless even if we had to pay ourselves, it made that much of a difference to my son's head. Tammy Mother to Graduated on 12/31/07 began on 10/31/07 banded at 4 1/2 months and we are looking great!

My daughter's Starband (Hangar Orthotics Seattle) cost $1,750. Our out-of-pocket expense was 50% with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of CA.

Our DocBand was $3300 to be paid in 4 equal installments (one at

casting and then 3 months after) or $3000 if we paid up front, which

we did. Cranial Tech is out of network for us, so we had to file the

claim ourselves and are still waiting to hear about coverage.

We also looked into a Starband and that was going to cost about

$3100, but they would have been in-network, and therefore, I don't

believe we would have had to pay anything upfront. They would have

just submitted the claim for us and then we would have paid the

difference.

I would plan on paying at least $3000 for a band, and then anything

better than that would be a bonus. It just depends on the provider,

whether they're in-network or out of network, and your insurance

coverage.

Good luck!

Hi,

My son was just banded on Tuesday. He is in a starband through a local orthotist. It was 2400 for everything. I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

I haven't heard back from our insurance yet. Good luck!

Thanks!

Kim
