Guest guest
Question: What is... "Is this one of those things where it's far better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission?" Answer: What Janet's hubby said after returning from a business trip to Los Angeles and finding the master bathroom painted RED. LOL. As if I've EVER asked permission to do anything anyway!! This from a man who has told me that he'd be happy living in a cave... so long as he has food and ;-) . Well, I painted a room of his cave - daredevil red... stocked the fridge... and as far as the rest of it... well, I pulled something in my back while painting, so two outta three ain't bad. It's been a very long week. Decided to tear out the tiled shower and have composite marble put in. The grout between the tiles kept cracking. Took me a few hours to pull out a few hundred tiles last weekend... and then the concrete board behind it. Hubby's contribution was pulling out the green board (water proof drywall) on Sunday. Things got scary when I decided to pull off water stained base boards in the linen closet adjacent to the shower. Black mold. No doubt from moisture that had seeped through the tile cracks. After sealing off the bathroom from the rest of the house with plastic tarps, closing the vents, and donning coveralls and a respirator mask, I used a box cutter to remove several inches of affected drywall. (Hubby's contribution- well, he went out to the shed to get the box cutter for me.) The whole water damage/black mold thing would've never happened if it weren't for someone putting a nail through the rubber liner that was behind the green board during construction. I had an air purifier, an air ionizer, and a dehumidifier all running for a week. Anyhoooo, hubby left for California on Monday morning, not knowing that during the previous week I had been collecting paint sample cards and taping them to the walls of the bathroom while he was at work during the day. Somedays I'd have as many as 15 color sample cards on the walls, trying to decide which shade of red I liked best. I was sure to get them down every afternoon before he got home. By the time his airplane was 'wheels up' on Monday morning, I was on my way to Home Depot to get the paint. Because of how dark of a color it is, I had to get a deep based tinted primer, so that I wouldn't have to do 10 coats of the red paint to fully cover it. Painted the primer coat on Monday evening. It was the most awful shade of peptobismol pink... oddly enough... almost the exact same color of my in-laws bathroom at their old house. I sent an email telling him that I painted the bathroom the same color of the one that he grew up with... and sent him a picture. Figured that after seeing the awful pink... he'd be relieved to come home and find that I'd actually painted it red. LOL. He emailed me back a very curt... "well, if you can live with that color." I was able to get 3 coats of the actual red paint on the walls before he came home last night. Surprisingly, he likes it... of course, anything would've been better than the pink primer in the picture that he thought it was going to be. The guys from the marble place installed the shower walls today. I still need to do another coat of paint, and then we'll have to put new baseboards in and hopefully white crown molding if hubby doesn't disown me first. Sharing a bathroom with a teenage daughter is getting old. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Stay safe out on the roads. Hopefully we won't get any of the icy conditions that they're calling for. I have to drive to , down by Austin tomorrow for 's powerlifting meet. Not sure why I'm still awake. We have to leave the house at 5:15 a.m. hugs, Janet
