Mine is in remission and I take 2 400 mg. pills twice a day to maintain that remission. Even when I was flaring badly, though, I never took more than 6 a day total. I can't recall having had any side effects specific to the Asacol, except that it seems to be the drug responsible for making my hair so brittle. I believe they come only in the 400 mg. strength. Guest guest
For the treatment of mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis: The usual dosage in adults is two 400-mg tablets to be taken three times a day for a total daily dose of 2.4 g for a duration of 6 weeks. Each Asacol Delayed-Release Tablet contains 400 mg of mesalamine (5-ASA). Asacol is indicated for the treatment of mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis and the maintenance of remission of ulcerative colitis. The usual adult dosage for active disease is two 400-mg tablets to be taken three times a day for a total daily dose of 2.4 g for a duration of 6 weeks. Asacol does not require titration. For maintenance of remission of ulcerative colitis, the recommended dosage in adults is 1.6 grams daily, in divided doses. Treatment duration in the prospective, well-controlled trial was 6 months. http://www.asacol.com/2007.shtml Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight, Whatever it Takes!
