Guest guest
Hi - It does sound like heat rash and I think you were fine to put the helmet back on for bedtime. Heat rash is more blotchy and more spread out than a typical red spot. Our therapist said that you won't get any red spots in the areas that don't have any pressure points. So just keep that in mind when you're checking his head as well. For instance, my son tends to get heat rash under his " side burns, " but those are not pressure points so I know that it is always heat rash, and not a red spot. Spots right on the forehead (the bossed side) and on the back non-flat side of the head (and possibly some side areas as well) would develop more red spots than the flatter sides. But definitely check with your ortho on that as well, he can point out specifically where red spots could be a problem, as mine did. As the temp changes too, his body will have to readjust. We had a couple 70 degree days last week, and my son had a rash all around the back bottom of his head, even though I had him in just shorts and a tshirt. It faded right away though. We also have to drive 3 hours each way for my son's band appointments in Charlotte, and he isn't sweaty after that 3 hours, so your son should adjust some more in that area as well. I tend to keep it just a little cooler in the car than it needs to be, just to help him along. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi - I have be battling a heat rash for awhile now with my son. The recommendation from CT was to take the helmet off every 2-3 hours and wipe his head off with a wet cloth to wash the sweat off and then wipe the helmet with a dry cloth. After his head has dried, we then put the helmet back on. I've also been using hydrocortisone cream. Today he had an adjustment and CT decided to put some moleskin in the helmet to see if that helps the rash since it just won't go away. I also make sure to keep him cool (no socks, etc). My son has almost been in the band 5 weeks and it has made a HUGE improvement already. The pediatrician saw him for a check up last week and thought his head looked " normal " already. We are hoping for a 6 week graduation. Good luck! Gwen > > > > Hi everyone, > > Well, seems to be doing pretty good with his Starband.
