Guest guest
Chelle, I had a nerve block done to my pudenal nerve twice but in the form of a trigger point injection not like the one you had with Dr. Quesada. The thing that's interesting is that when I had the block done twice to see if it would help any of my pain it did nothing. Whenever I got the block in the genitofemoral (not from the spinal area but on the actual vulvar area) I did great. What that told me is that my problem is the genitofemoral, ilioinguinal (figured this one out recently), and now with my most recent visit we are looking at that it may be possible that another nerve called the iliohypogastric nerve which is around another part of the spine could be playing in to this. When I saw my Pain Management doctor in Dec she pressed on the area around where the pudenal nerve branch is yes, I hurt such as around my bladder and such too but I have felt that the lumbar nerves are the issue, and that whatever is going on there is damaged (Dr. Conway explained to me that sometimes not feeling pain in areas can also mean damage to the nerves such as the pudenal nerve) but causing the pain to radiate and refer to the pudenal nerve. So when I saw my Pain Management doctor this month we talked about the issue again and I mentioned to her about what happened with when she tried to block the pudenal nerve twice (and I've had pain sensations come from that nerve branch before but it didn't stay as long as when I felt things going on that tells me the lumbar nerves are acting up) and that it did nothing for me we have now changed focus. So I had the upright MRI done last week. And yep, the tech told me that with this MRI it also took pictures of my sacral area (because I was wondering why it was not listed on the order to include sacral). Also, something else of interest was that when I was filling out the paperwork before my MRI I had to fill out a questionnaire about that area as part of my paperwork. It asked about if you have back pain, and also hip pain (which I've been having over the past month which tells me something is probably going on with the SI-sacroilliac-joint in relation to my arthritis, a story for another time). This questionnaire I had to fil out had a section for a different area which didn't apply to me and then the one for the lumbar area. The upright MRI was great, and they had it so that you could watch tv while the test was being done. It was great. I will let you know when I get the results. Please keep me posted on how things turn out with this doctor that you are seeing now goes. As for the Neurontin, yes, 600 mg is too much to start out with. When I did Neurontin almost 10 years ago the doctor I had started me at 300 mg and slowly worked me up to 600 mg and then later on up to 2400 mg (which is where I was at as far as dosage when first I ran out of the prescription, a story for another time) and stopped. Unfortunately I found that Neurontin did not work well for me whenever I took it by itself as I said before. With the anti-inflammatory drug I did great with that Neurontin. I will let you know if I decide to consider trying Lyrica any way in spite of my concerns because my Pain Management doctor said she had a starter kit I could try to see what I thought. We'll see.
