Guest guest
Most babies take to the band without a problem. Some don't like it at first, but will get over that really soon and then don't even notice it anymore. However, if your son's behaviour doesn't get any better over the next few days, the band might need to be adjusted. Does the red spot go away within an hour of taking it off? If so, then it's probably fine. If not, the band might put too much pressure on that part of the skull and hurt a little bit. Your baby's behaviour should go back to normal in no time; if not, go and talk to your ortho. I have been a member of this group for almost 6 months now and I haven't read a post yet where the baby doesn't adjust at all. I remember a few who had trouble at first, just like your son, but after just a few days, they were just fine. I know this is hard, but hang in there and it will get better. Guest guest
Thank you both Tammy and for your encouragement. The red spot has not gone away, nor has it gotten any worse with wear during the day today - the poor guy is exhausted from not sleeping well last night I imagine. As I explained to the CT orthotist it appears as if it is pressure from his sleep position on his " favorite side " due to the torticollis. The orthotist said that if its not being caused during the day and only at night then I should try to incline his crib. I also tried to position him more on his right side (similar to our reposition efforts earlier) for his naps today and things seem to go better. I just got him down for the night... if its worse in the morning I am going to take it off, call CT and see if they can get us in. We live nearly 3 hours away from them, so its not a trivial trip. I am so worried also that if he doesnt wear it enough he might grow out of it without the hoped correction. Will a day or two matter (like over the weekend if we cant manage to keep him in it the recommended 23 hours?). Thanks! > > Most babies take to the band without a problem. Guest guest
Thanks for the help and encouragement. The red mark is swollen and not gone after 12 hours. It did not worsen during the day despite the band being worn all day. I even was able to put him down for his naps with it on. HOWEVER, he refused to fall asleep tonight and after nearly 2 hours of screaming, I hit my breaking point and took the band off again. He was so upset it took me another 45 minutes to calm him (this is my son who has slept through the night since he was 4 weeks old and hardly ever fusses at night more than 5 minutes). I am trying to decide if I should put it back on after I know he is down hard or just wait until morning again. His sleep habits are part of the reason we are needing the shape correction, so its at night when he needs to wear it the most. We have our next appt at CT on Monday morning, maybe we can limp along through the weekend. They are nearly 3 hours from us and I dont know if I can make the trip tomorrow. I apologize if I am complaining too much. Thanks again. > > Most babies take to the band without a problem. Guest guest
I would take it a little slower if you need to. He'll be wearing the band for months most likely, so one night out of the band it okay. I would try to see CT before putting the band back on - 12 hours is a long time to have a swollen red spot. If the skin breaks down you'll have to leave the band off even longer to let it heal. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > > > Most babies take to the band without a problem.
