i'm taking lyrica now but i took neurontin for about 18 months. i think neurontin worked better for me. i tried lyrica because it is supposed to have less side effects but i don't agree with that at all. i get a very drunk feeling every night a few hours after i take the lyrica. Carolyn, Elavil was the first medicine I ever took and it worked for about 3 1/2 years for me and I got a really bad flare and it didn't knock it out so I stopped that one. I have tried cymbalta and that did nothing for me. Lately when I have a flare I take flexeril and that has been great it normally knocks it out, that has been for the past 3 years now but unfortunatly that has stopped working now as well. I have never tried neurontin or lyrica. Hope this helps. Now my doctor is just trying me on hydroxyzine 10mg at bedtime. So far one week into it no difference and it makes me very sleepy. Lyrica has worked the BEST for me and I first had elavil, neurontin, cymbalta and finally LYRICA. It is working so well my doctor is hesitant for me to lower the dosage! I am doing the 100mg three nights then one night 75 mg then back to the 100 for three nights and so forth. So far so good. best wishes, ML
