My son takes risperdone since he was 3 yrs old and now he’s

8 yrs old 52 lbs and never saw any difference and he’s very skinny and

the medicine doesn’t help to focus and he’s very active and

sometimes he won’t stop running and the Dr just increased the dose about

8 months ago and he’s taking 2mg per day, 1 in the morning and 1 at night

but still don’t see any progress and I’m going to see the Neuro on

Nov 9th Can anyone suggest any other medication to help focus

and to slow down? A medication that won’t affect the appetite, he’s

a good eater. Also he has a lot of anxiety in the morning because he

knows the Bus is coming and he doesn’t want to go to school…well who

want to go to school?? Most kids hate school…and the teacher is amazing

with him, but he rather stay home.

Thanks in advance

Hi Caroline,I'm glad I was able to give you some information on the medication. Its amazing how the medication starts working and you start to notice a change in your kids. My daughter has behavior issues and now she is such a delight. I don't know how long she will be on this dosage, she's been complaining of feeling sleepy throughout the day. I'm going to be consulting her doctor to see what suggestions she has.I'm really glad that your son is coming along, you will see that for now since this medication is working, it will only get better. I'm not sure the cost of the Risperdal its covered under her medicaid. All the best to you and your

son.God Bless,To: sList Sent: Wed, October 20, 2010 2:41:16 PMSubject: Re: Risperal by Wockhardt Limited? or Patriot?

Hi ,Thanks for your message. I am happy to hear that the medication is working for your daughter. I am not a fan of medicating kids either, but things came to a head and it became a quality of life issue for my son who was becoming very distressed a lot of the time with "sensory" body pain (inexplicable), a lot of OCD and spontaneous crying episodes. He was also not sleeping...getting up around six times during the night turning lights on and off. I have seen a huge difference in his behavior; he is more calm, very smiley and happy, very affectionate towards me and the OCD has calmed some but not completely. He is sleeping through the night again and doesn't appear to be in distress as he was.

As with all med's, one never quite knows how long things are going to be good, but we still have a little room to manoeuvre with his dose. He started on .5ml about a month ago but we upped it to .75ml after a week or so as the behavioral issues got worse initially . It's early days but so far, so good.

My son has gained weight already, but quite frankly he needed to! He has had a feeding disorder since birth but we have really turned a corner with that since it was discovered that he had ulcers, which are now cured and the Risperidone has definitely increased his appetite also.

I imagine Resperdal is quite a lot more expensive than the generic. Is that why you are asking about the different varieties of the drug? All the best to you. Hope that answers your question.

Caroline.

Hi Caroline,

Yes, my daughter is on Risperdal 2mg a day. I must say since she started using this medication it has made a huge difference. My one and only concern is the weight gain and she needs to get blood work done every 6 months to check her liver and cholesterol. So far she's OK, she has put on some weight, but that could be remedy with diet and exercise that we've since started.

I'm not a fan of medicating kids, but I've gone through so many other meds and this is the one that works for my daughter. She is so much focused and the behavior issues have lessen substantially.

What changes if any have you seen and how long has your 11 year been taking the medication.

The medication works just give it a chance.

Best of luck,

My 11 year old is on Risperidone, the Patriot generic of Risperdal

Does anyone use Risperdal by the manufacturer Wockhardt Limited? Does anyone use the one made by Patriot? Have you used both and have you seen a difference?

Thanks.
