Guest guest
I've heard that anything under 1500 calories per day for an adult will not provide adequate nutrition..... They've revised stuff now days though.. there is a formula for determining your maintenance calories... The simple rule is that if you reduce your caloric balance by 500 calories per day you will lose 1 pound per week. That is achieved by combining a decrease in calorie intake with an increase in physical activity..... But when dealing with a body that has a fixed thyroid hormone level... like us taking replacement meds, be it full replacement or partial) our bodies aren't able to shift things in response to changes the way that a 'normal' body will. In a body with a fully functioning glandular system a decrease in caloric intake and an increase in physical activity triggers a shift in hormone levels... Mostly it's thyroid and adrenaline. See, after activity... the 'normal' body has an increase burn for up to two hours after physical activity has stopped. We don't... for us when the activity stops.. so does much of the burn. By burn I mean the residual burn of fat and calories in response to the exercise. It has a lot to do with how our metabolisms respond and how our bodies build/grow/repair. How this all links together is why so many body builders take T3 and T2 when trying to get ripped for competition... that increase in active thyroid hormone burns up a lot of calories and allows them to drop their body fat to better display muscle development. For us... we are just working on getting the level of the active hormones (that's the Frees) to a level that allows our bodies to function in a healthy manner. Now.. don't anyone get this grand idea that all you have to do is go out and buy a few bottles of T3 or T2 and drop some quick weight... this plan only works for a short period of time and then the gland cuts back production.. if you stay on the regime to long you trash your thyroid AND adrenal glands.... When I started on Synthroid in the early 90's I was told to guard them with my life, that they were selling on the black market for 10 bucks a pill! For weight loss... This came from my endo and the pharmacy! Oh.. gots to mention too.. that excessive levels of the active hormones puts a HUGE stress on the heart, also not a good thing... It's best in my opinion to concentrate on getting our hormone levels to a healthy level so that our bodies can do what they are supposed to do... maintain a healthy weight. Our bodies don't WANT to carry around a hundred extra pounds, no way.. that's WORK... but when they aren't working right and things are all messed up.... weight gain is a symptom that our body needs our help.... This is assuming that the person is responsible with eating habits and not just pigging out and wondering why they can't lose.... .... and no.. don't shoot me.... MOST of us here probably have a greater tendency toward under eating than over eating. Guest guest
This might be shallow, but has anyone else lost weight when taking the Cytomel for Reverse T3? I start tomorrow. I have gained 30 lbs this past year and a half. I want to feel better, but have to admit, I would LOVE to lose some of this weight.
