Welcome Angie,

I'm Jill, mom to 2 kids. Our son, Ian, is 15 and mainstreamed as a sophomore

in our local high school. Ian is aided for a progressive bilateral

conductive loss currently in the moderate range. He has an Fm system at school

as well

a TOD and other services appropriate for his needs. Ian was diagnosed very

late (7-years-old) when he was in 2nd grade. Our other child is , a

12-year-old in middle schooler with no hearing loss. In fact, no one in our

family

or extended families has a similar hearing loss. A great aunt lost her

hearing due to scarlet fever as a child, and grandparents wear aids now, but

that's due to the usual age issues.

We were not lucky enough to have an EI program or infant screening identify

Ian's loss. We're not even sure when his loss began. So, we learned everything

from lists like this and through the kindness of total strangers.

You'll find this place top be wonderful. Parents and caregivers supporting

each other and sharing ideas, resources and the occasional bragging or whining

that we all need to do now and then. What's really great is the attitude here

is that the " right answer " is what works for your child. I'll share what's

worked for Ian, but that doesn't mean it'll work for anyone else. But people

here are more than willing to share their ideas and their resources, and by

reading about those we get ideas about what may work for our own kids. It's a

great place.

There are no protocols about joining the ongoing discussions. Just jump in

with your experiences or even to ask a question. We just always try to

remember to respect each other's choices and opinions. You'll rarely, if ever,

find

a flame war going on here ... which is a wonderful change from some other

lists.

Welcome again,

Jill

Thank you Keisha, I look forward to learning more about you all and how you deal

with your children's hearing loss/education.

Looking forward to talking with you all further!

Hi, Angie,

We pretty much subscribe to the " there are no stupid questions " philosophy

-- if you don't ask, you'll never know. TOD stands for Teacher of the Deaf.

And hi, I'm the mom to Ben, 7, severe to profound HOH, who was identified at

birth. He's had hearing aids since 3 months, talks constantly, listens when

it suits him, is mainstreamed in first grade, and is an all around great

kid. I've been on this list since he was a year old (!) and learn new things

all the time. Plus, it's just the best place to get advice/info when you

really need it.

I also have a 10-year-old daughter with a mild loss; she currently uses a

soundfield FM in her classroom (speakers mounted on the wall, teacher wears

a mic, everyone hears him louder) and next year will use an ear-level

EduLink in middle school.

Welcome!

Hi Angie. Welcome! We're glad to have you with us.

I know that all of the acronyms can be confusing. I've put up a page of

acronyms that you're likely to run across here, but if you're ever in doubt,

please don't hesitate to ask us. We're all here to share knowledge and we

can't share if we don't know what you need to know.

Hello to all! I have just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and

already I am finding the process daunting. I saw my family physician

who suggested I get a mammogram (hadn't had one since 2002)but, I do

check myself regularly. I thought I might have felt something, but, I

tend to get cysts so... To add to the thought I might, I was having

pain in my left breast. Anyway, I had a mammogram, ultrasound and

biopsy within the last 2 weeks and, yes, I have breast cancer in both

breasts. I made an appointment with a surgeon - end of the month and

thought I should see an oncologist. I saw him last Friday and now

have an appointment with a radiologist, bone scan, chest xray and an

mri scheduled. What I find disconcerting is all these tests are

scheduled with little explanation of what order, or why they are being

done. He also suggested a PET scan-but my dogs are fine. Actually he

said he would have to check with my insurance. Anyway, here I am and

I have not a clue what is going on.

Hi , sorry to hear about your possible diagnosis. Lidocaine can reduce

pain with sex. Also, I find warm/hot baths really helpful.

what are your symptoms?

Hi ,

Please consider finding a physical therapist that specializes

in sexual dysfunction and painful sex. My PT specializes in that area and

recently told me a story of a young lady from Pakistan that had been married

for two years and had never had sex. It was too painful and she was very

frightened, and she had never consummated her marriage. Upon coming here to

visit relatives for the summer, she came to see my PT for help. Over the course

of ten sessions, this young woman was able to consummate her marriage and have successful

sex without pain, before she went home to Pakistan. You can get help – so please

look into a PT that might be able to help you.

Hi, My name is ,

I'm 23 years old and have been married since May. I have

just recently been diagnosed with a possible vulvar vestibulitis. I have my apt

with a specialist in late October. I was wondering if anyone has any

suggestions to reduce pain during sex that i can try until i see the

gynourologist. My husband and I almost never have it at all because it is so

painfull for me, and it is really starting to take a toll on my marriage. I get

really depressed that its all my fault and that I'm not living up to what i should

be. Thank You

Please be sure to have your free T3 tested at the same time as your reverse T3.

If your FT3/RT3 ratio is off, then you'll need to insure your adrenals and iron

are in good shape before trying T3 supplementation.

Your symptoms are suspiciously like mine. Do you have joint pain? Besides the

hypo stuff, panic is co-related to gluten sensitivity. You might want to try

meticulously avoiding wheat, barley, and rye for four weeks to see how that

makes you feel.

Alan

> sorry to see you here but hope we can help! Do you have any blood results from

you last visit? Have you ever had your adrenals tested via saliva cortisol

testing? How about ferritin or RT3? Just the fact that you are on synthetic T4

will leave you feeling horrible! Did you read the FAQ? http://thyroid-rt3.com/Â

I don't know of anyone who has had a good experience with an endo. I have been

to 7.... all equally useless in the end. Did you have your thyroid out? Many of

us <me included> have been down the antidepressant path, doesn't help, just

makes us worse since that isn't what is wrong! As for temps have you ever done

them by the Dr. Rind method?

http://www.drrind.com/therapies/metabolic-temperature-graph#intro this method

helps to determine the strength of your adrenals.
