Cheri,

No, mine weren't stitched, and weren't packed either until I got the dry

socket, then the dentist packed that one. The only reason I even

remember that much is because of the pain being so horrible. All of mine

healed fine after that, and I didn' t make the mistake of rinsing

swishing too soon again! I don't think I swished hard, just gently

rinsed but it was enough to cause the dry socket. I'm sure dental

practices are better these days, or I hope they are. Mine were taken out

when I was 17 or 18. I think they were pulled one at a time. Hard to

recall, the ones that didn't go bad didn't leave the same impression, LOL.

I had mine at 19. First one side, then the next. The top I have had no

problems with but the bottom still haven't sealed after over 20 years. One

of the bottom ones didn't bleed much but when I went back for the second

one, that was a nightmare.

I know all my younger friends who have it done now all get stitches as it

seems to be the common practice here now. I sure wish they had done that

when I was having mine done. I can glide my tooth along there and still feel

the slit.

Well, all I can say is the when I had my last two removed it was not fun. I

still have some nerve damage from where the root was wrapped around the

nerve and jawbone. If you even THINK you MIGHT have a dry socket, go back in

and have them look at it. I ended up with a dry socket. When it first

happened, I called them to see if I should come in. I was told if it was a

dry socket I would have no doubt because I would be in intense pain. I

wasn't in lots of pain, just uncomfortable which was normal so I didn't go

back in. About 10 days later I was in INTENSE pain. Turns out I did have a

dry socket. During those ten days, bits of food were getting lodged in the

hole eventually causing an infection which is what caused the pain. I had to

use this weird syringe thing to flush the hole several times a day and had

to take pain killers constantly until it healed up. I just told my boss at

the time that I could be at work on pain meds or be off work for a couple of

weeks. I do have a low tolerence for pain, so I know I wasn't hurting that

badly when the dry socket happened. It could be related to the nerve damage

that occured as well though. Anyway, if anything seems off go back in and

have them look at it. They can fix it pretty easily if you go in right away,

but not if you wait.

By " dry socket " are you talking about cavitations? I can't afford to get

mine addressed right now so it will have to wait. I have about $20,000 of

dental work I need done. Ugh! Cheri
