Guest guest
Hello I have some experience with low stomach acid. I had severe Gastritis for at least 1.5 years. The pain felt like my stomach was turned inside out and put in the sun to get severe sunburn. It was several months of taking slippery elm, licorice herbs to heal it enough to take Betaine HCL but the Betaine helped stop the reflux. My adrenals were so bad I took 20-30 Betaine HCL tablets per meal!!! I must have not been producing ANY acid during that time. Within the last year I have added pancreatic enzymes and my insides feel alot better. No refux, good digestion, etc. I take Thorne Betaine HCL now only 6 per meal - 2 with high protein snacks and I take 2 Thorne Di-Pan 9 which is pure Pancreatin. I now take the enzymes about 20 minutes before a meal and the Betaine HCL 30-60 minutes after the meal. I found that waiting for the 30-60 minutes forces my stomach to produce some acid and then I supplement the rest. I read this in a research paper and it seems to work it also talked about taking the enzymes 20 minutes before eating as I am doing. I had a really good MD tell me that it takes acid to keep the sphincter muscle at the top of the stomach closed so too little acid allows the muscle to loosen and you get reflux. I have since read about this and I am living proof that it is true. It did take some time to figure out my dose and it is based on the amount of protein I ate. Just my two cents......hope it helps > > > > Yes, low thyroid and low cortiosl BOTH tend to cause low stomach acid > > and poor digestion. Betaine HCL would be the first thing to try . > > > > -- > > > > http://nthadrenalsweb.org/ > > http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ > > http://faqhelp.webs.com/ > > > > http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ > > http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ > > > > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ > > http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ > > >
