Guest guest
Ok. I clean it everyday I use dial soap just a little a rub it all around then I use acholol and rub that all around. But it still has that smell. It is not as bad but it is still there. How wet do you get yours? I am nervous to get it to wet. Please give me tips or tell me what you do. He is a really chubby baby 22 pounds and is 5 1/2 months olds so he sweats a lot.
Guest guest
I swab it with 99% alcohol 2x a day, morning and evening. I dunk it in the bath with her every other day and wash it with just a bit of her baby wash. I then take it out of the tub and rinse it really well in the sink. I towel dry and give the band a few passes with the hairdryer. My orthotist cautioned me about using stronger soaps and a lot of soap as it leaves a bit of film on the foam and that becomes a better surface for dirt and bacteria to hang on to. Guest guest
I could be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure that you are NEVER supposed to get a band that wet by submerging it in water or rinsing it in the sink. I thought that we were told that getting it too wet could damage the foam. Also, we were told by our Ortho to not use anything but Alchohol to clean the band. Guest guest
We had a STARband but I was thinking the same thing. We were told never to submerge it. Angie Re: How do you clean your starband? Guest guest
We have a hanger band and we were told to use Dawn or Ivory clean risne dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush and then rinse with water. Once a week we use alcohol and let it air dry. We were also told not to clean it the day before an appointment. The dish soap and toothbrush seem to work well. -Chandra > > > > I swab it with 99% alcohol 2x a day, morning and evening. Guest guest
I don't know much about the Hanger band specifically, but I thought I've heard the same thing (about any band), that submerging it is not a good thing and that alcohol is the best thing to use. I have heard of individual orthos giving additional options in cleaning, so I would ask your ortho specifically before trying anything else. (I'm actually going to do the same thing when we go for an adjustment on Monday). For now, I use 91% alcohol with a toothbrush, and yes it's stinky at the end of the day when I take his band off, but overall, I don't smell it during the day while it's on. Also, we have a painted DocBand, so I can't even clean the outside of it (or the paint would come off). If I had patterned plastic like the Star and Hanger, I would use alcohol on the outside as well (which is actually what I do in between paint jobs after I've peeled off the paint). Guest guest
I get my son's STARband real wet and soapy when I clean it and rinse it a lot. I dry as much as I can with a clean towel before air drying and it's been fine. If it needs it I'll do twice a day. Maybe you just need more water? It does get better once they adjust to wearing and sweat less. Good luck!
Guest guest
My orthotist recommended rubbing alcohol, and/or wipes with scent and alcohol. My boy Jack is so sensitive that we are going straight up alcohol. We start the process today....waiting for little man to wake up. Re: How do you clean your starband? Please give me tips!!!
